Benno

i think stimmo has made some good signings, the problem is is that they won't have an immediate impact and so patience is required

We HAVE to get a result there over Xmas. The double over the Gills is imperative, although I can't see them being as much of a rollover as they were back in September!

Benno and Thurgood vs Maher, Bailey and McCormack, what a midfield battle that will be. I hope the ref has got a new pencil!

And looking at that, put so simply, shows that we have far and away the better midfield. Two players with zero ability against our three.

Harsh on Benno, although true, I'd far rather have Nicky B or Macca at this level or higher!

agreed.. i think there is definitely a rose-tinted view on here about Benno, technically he was woeful in all areas, but he made up for it in some part with his 110% effort and physical play. but as CCCSiders says, it's all about our midfield who mix bennos play with some actual talent and technique!

i liked Benno although i doubt he'd get in the side if he was still here.

Quite - I liked Bentley as well and he did a cracking job for us at the time but Bailey and McCormack are much better. They'll certainly be a better side than they were when we played them in September but on paper we've got more than enough quality to beat them, especially if Leon's playing!

Bentley would have played a lot last season had he signed the contract that we offered him and would have probably be in our side right now in fact. Is he as good as Bailey or McCormack? No, but he's certainly not as bad as people are acting.

He would have played a bit last season when we were playing Clarke there but he wouldnt get in the side much with McCormack and Bailey.

We've again returned to playing a central midfielder out wide. There's a reason why, and its something that Tilly would have done last season had he had the option. I also believe it would have toughened us up.

I don't think teams necessarily out-played us last season as physically out-fought us, most noticeably at set-pieces.

Benno over JCR would have been a substantial up-grade.

My mate is a fanatic Gills supporter and he as been telling me of late that benno as been playing at centre back and still looks the best player they have got on the pitch by a country mile:rolleyes:
