Colchester United's next home game sees us welcome our Essex neighbours Southend United to the Weston Homes Community Stadium on Boxing Day.

It's time to renew rivalries, after a five year gap, after the Shrimpers returned to League One via the play-offs at the end of last season.

There are less than two weeks until Southend make the short journey up the A12 for the festive encounter and we're looking for YOUR memories of previous derby days.

We want to hear about your favourite matches against the the side from the other end of the county - and we suspect that hat-tricks from Perry Groves and Jamie Cureton will feature highly amongst U's fans' recollections.

We also want to know about any families who will have split loyalties on Boxing Day - do we have anyone who has both U's and Shrimpers supporters in their family? Or maybe you work with Southend fans and have been building up to this game since the fixtures were released in June?

We want to tell your story - both on the website and in the programme - so drop us a line at media@colchesterunited.net with your best Southend Stories!

If I did have such a family I wouldn't admit to it to close friends and neighbours let alone on the world-wide webnet.

Colchester & Proud's girlfriend "Flossy" is a Shrimper through and through. "Hush my darling, hush....I'll teach you the ways of The Lamacq..."

Here's one reply:

Dear cu-fc.com,

My name is Justin and I have supported Col Ewe for a long time, but must confess I've never heard of these Cureton and Groves fellows, but then I don't get out much.

My outstanding memory is from when Col Ewe were struggling at the foot of the table and in danger of going out of the League. However when those Southend people came to a town I just new it would be the start of a revival. However Southend beat us 2-0 and those rough coarse Southend fans started chanting "there will only be one team in Essex in the Merry month of May". It was very unkind of them and upset me considerably. Sadly though it was true and it was then that I stopped going out in case any stray Southend should taught me again.

I won't be going on Boxing Day it will be far too noisy and expect there will be lots of those taunting Southend fans there.

Yours nervously

Justin xx

Dear Colchester United media,

My name is Andy Farmer and I am a Colchester fan exiled in the Lancashire countryside. It is sad to see Colchester United concede as many league goals as I can count on my two hands this season. My memories of Essex derbies are sketchy but the one that lives in my memory is of Karl Duguid riding roughshod over the spirit of sportmanship, which should be a pre-requisite to these games, and getting the Southend player Mark Gower sent off with a scandalous piece of play-acting when it looked like he had been pole-axed by Mike Tyson with the hump.

One other memory I have is that Southend left-backs have an uneering act of getting on the scoresheet in these games, think Owen Simpson, Peter Johnson, Che Wilson so lets hope whichever non-entity is in charge on 26 December will detail special attention on Ben Coker.

Yours,

Dear Colchester United Media,

I support Colchester, my wife supports Southend. Imagine how much grief our parents have had keeping us from coming to blows since we were kids.

Many thanks

I think we may need to stop now: that's three and any more it'll become a bit too obvious as they'll have received more letters than they have supporters.

Dear Col Ewe Media,

I get fed up getting bullied by Messrs Sammy Shrimp and Elvis J Eel. Last time I was doing really well in the mascot race, puffing out my chest really proudly and getting in to a healthy lead, then those two baaaa stewards took me out at the third corner flag. I was so upset, it's just not fair. That was gonna be my big moment, having to follow Col Ewe I don't get much enjoyment.

So please can you tell them not to be so naughty next time.

Yours lovingly,

Eagle

PS: can you ensure that furniture store mascot comes along again, she let me pull out her drawers afterwards
