BBC BREAKING NEW! F1 Investigating..

Think they could have used some poetic license to change some of the wording on these quotes:

German driver Vettel echoed Webber's comments in criticising Hamilton.
"It was my fault, but it is clear the rhythm was not there," he said. "We are all sitting in the same boat. At the point [of the crash) I was distracted, looking to the right.
"I was sure Hamilton was retiring, he seemed to have no power any longer, but by the time I looked back, I was already in Mark's rear end."

i tell you what... ive got full circle after seeing the new footage of what happened. yes vittel should have been looking where he was going but what Hamilton did was too much IMO. it really does look like he is retiring and Webber doesn't really have much option but to slow almost to a stop as well. Hamilton doesn't break the rules about following the safety car from what i understand, however what he did was dangerous. vittel shouldn't have crashed into webber but hamiltons actions were dangerous in the first instance.

it seems likely hamilton is going to be put back 10places on the grid for sundays race.... he has school-boy errored big time IMO

This is ridiculous though - why are the FIA trying to devalue the Driver's Championship after already rendering the constructors meaningless? Yes Hamilton drove poorly behind the safety car but any punishment should be given at the time by the stewards, not after the race when someone whines about it. Plenty of bad driving goes unpunished in F1, why don't they punish Kubica as well for almost putting Hamilton out later in the race with another piece of poor driving?

they did punish kubica.

i don't think they are trying to devalue the championship, but what hamilton did IMO was dangerous and reckless. there seems to be a grey area where some kind of complaint was made after the race but it wasn't followed up. i want lewis to win and he deserves to as well... but im just saying that i wouldn't be suprised if he was punished and i can understand vittel and webbers complaints

Did they? I don't remember that, but then again I did miss the end of the race.

I can see what you're saying, but it doesn't look that dangerous to me. If I smash into the back of another car because I'd been looking at something else on the road then it's my fault for not paying attention. Whatever the rights and wrongs of Hamilton's driving, Vettel SHOULD have been looking where he was going!

yeah he got a drive-through.

hamilton's driving was dangerous, even if an accident didn't occur i would still have expected some repercussions after seeing the replay. vittel has to take the blame for crashing into webber but it wouldn't have happened if hamilton drove safely and vittel wasn't being distracted

I am sorry but I cannot believe that, surely Vettel is a professional driver and should be watching the whole road not just one driver, he claims he watched Hamilton as he thought he was retiring, viewing the clip again shows he was so close to Webber that he should not have been rubber necking.

The thing that gets me in all this is that the complaint only came after a clip on Youtube was posted. If the aggrieved drivers had an issue why not at the time, after they would not need to view YouTube to know there was an issue.

Looks a bit of poor judgement all round to me aswell.....he almost over took the safety car and then seemed to over correct his gaffe...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_QJurnfxRm4

The others should have been watching but then why was Hamilton all the way over there.

Not quite sure what he would have gained by setting up a crash between those two anyway. Hardly challenging his title position are they.

Dont they call these "racing incidents" - its all part of the fun.....

i agree and you missed my point. if hamilton hadn't of veered right and slowed right down then vittel wouldn't have crashed... fact.

im not saying vittel is innocent, he shouldn't have been distracted and should have looked where he was going.... but it was what hamilton did in the first place that was dangerous and unsporting IMO. he was trying a few tricks and it worked, he should have been done for dangerous driving but at the time it wasn't done. hamilton was lucky about this IMO and it seems that because of a lack of investigation straight after the race then it's been dropped (and so the youtube video has no bearing)

I have not missed you point as i felt that due to the conditions what Hamilton did to veer right was correct as he may have collided with the Safety car, as Southminster said why would he be doing tricks with this two drivers behind him what does he gain from it. I believe that it was just down to poor judgement rather than anything sinister or contrived as what you are implying occurred.

have you watched the youtube video? the safety car does not slow down suddenly so there wasn't any real possibility of hamilton crashing into it. i don't know why hamilton veered to the right but it wasn't because of the safety car im sure. it could have been driver error or a mistake or whatever but i still think what he did was very strange and was the primary cause of the crash... that's what im trying to say. im delighted that hamilton has not been punished but i also hope he learns not to be such a wally!

No I base all my views on hearsay and guess work.

That is how came to my conclusion on you as a star footballer. :finger:

the hearsay is accurate this time then!

i'm not disagreeing in principle with what you are saying, but i don't think there is any arguement about the driving of the safety car (as otherwise webber, vettel, hamilton and the FIA would have all mentioned it). I was probably wrong to say Hamilton was definitely playing games but what he did was strange and dangerous IMO, and was what triggered Vettel crashing into Webber (which is why his penalty has been reduced)

I did not say how the safety was driven, I just mentioned that Hamilton probably got too close to the safety car (i.e. on the previous corner) and decided to slow down to give himself more space between his car and the safety car.

Anyway I am bored now as I cannot really stand F1 on the whole.
