Battrick - Season Review

MrB

Life President
Reasonably happy in the end, the big game at the top went in favour of the better team (No. 4 in Level IV according to Batstats - one behind Andee!) which should leave my way clear for promotion next season depending on who comes down. Spending 4 seasons in the same division is unusual when 5 teams can change each season!

As expected our bowling was our main menace. Season ratings of our main 5 certainly give us hope for next season:

Suthers: 146 19 479 54 8.87
Saj: 96 9 284 27 10.52
Hot Rod: 105 9 378 30 12.60
Mushie: 108 10 434 31 14.00
Beefy: 80 6 354 15 23.60

Batting started with it's usual issues but switching back to hard and fast seemed to do the trick as our bowlers seemed unaffected but the batsmen started to find runs. Pleased to finally find Cold Rod's position and our main three flourished towards the end of the season in what was a bowling biased league:

Beefy: 17 14 818 3 74.36
Saj: 18 18 735 7 66.82
Cold Rod: 18 17 593 8 65.89

With Cunningham and McConnell coming through, skipper Maymann (strong) can drop down the order to 8 which gives us nice depth.

Prediction for Season 7:
We have to win it but I'll reserve judgment till I see who's coming down!

after 5 seasons (well 4 and half as i took over halfway thru season 2) i have finally climbed out of div 5 and await to see wherei end up next season, but being the 22nd best auto place, i should end up in a middling div id have thought...

my batters got me thru this season, never having my team bowled out (infact 5 was the most wickets i lost in an innings)..

Player...I....R......Ave
Cole.....16..1013..168.83
Tekere..16..790....98.75
Gadd....10..735....147.00
Sneath..7...574....287.00
Gerber...9..175.....29.17

Hopefully Gerber gets better over the summer!

As for bowlers, my bowlong attack was good, but i dont think itsgonna be great in Div 4, but hopefully where i sold Branch and promoted Green (whos made a good start and can bat a bit) will help..

Player...runs...wick...Ave
Bhutia....275.....30.....9.17
Keehan...313.....40.....7.83
Mansell...364.....40.....9.10
Cawood..489.....27.....18.11
Green.....156......9.....17.33

Also i have finally decided to replace Chavda..

Stamina: mediocre Wicket Keeping: superb
Batting: abysmal Concentration: strong
Bowling: abysmal Consistency: proficient
Fielding: feeble

With Fray at wk

Stamina: mediocre Wicket Keeping: proficient
Batting: proficient Concentration: competent
Bowling: worthless Consistency: feeble
Fielding: woeful

altho Chavda is a better Wk.. i think at level 4, the extra batsman will make the difference, plus Chavda is 26 and Fray is only 18, so looking to the future, by the end of next season, Fray should be as good as Chav was at WK

Pleased to come 1st, very unexpected, but will do a review once my play-off is done next week :)

A 10 wicket win on the last day has secured promotion back into V at the first attempt. As predicted it was the batsmen who did the majority of the damage. With Buckley normally getting the innings off to a solid, start, its often left to Eliot, Stoner and in particular Coppinger in the middle order to blow the opposition away with their attacking style:

I R HS Ave
Coppinger: 15 703 136 87.88
Elliot: 15 885 116 63.21
Stoner: 14 630 119 52.50
Buckley: 15 595 95 42.50
Magloire: 9 164 73* 41.00
Scholes: 6 115 52* 38.33
Evanson: 12 291 58* 36.38

Although obviously the bowlers have contributed too! None of them especially tight but all been tacking wickets which is great.

O R W Ave Econ
Murphy: 62 247 17 14.53 3.98
Thato: 124 594 28 21.21 4.79
Tortoishell: 122 484 22 22.00 3.27
Magloire: 76 401 16 25.06 5.28
Evanson: 126 673 23 29.26 5.34

Survival is all i am hoping for next season in my first real season in V.

Started a season or so after everyone else so I was content with my 3rd place. Next season should be the same with another decent not great team replacing the Champions/My Bogey team.

Next season I'll be offloading my old WK and looking for a new Batsman trainee to replace him. He's only comp batting but he has wonderful concentration so can hold his own at this level.

I'll also be looking to b train up a fast bowler to replace on eof my strong spinners who will still be fine for now but will need replacing long term if I'm ever to get promoted.

As expected I won my division with ease, should be Ok in IV, but I need my bowling to step up a bit. Evelyn, Tselane and Ricketts should get enough runs, but I think I'm going to have to be a bit defensive bowling wise. High hopes for 17yo trainee Schoeman, although his bowling will probably not really be up to it until later in the year. Managed to up my stadium to 27,500 and I've built my squad in the hope of FC in season 8 and associated rise in the TM !! Looking forward to the 20/20 where I have a pretty good chance of making it to the KO stage.

I tended to save my players for the SZ cup as it would have been carnage if most of them had played in the league, but I'll give you some of the figures anyway.

Batting

Evelyn 772 runs at 154.4 and 19 dismissals in just 9 games
Tselane 651 runs at 162.75 in just 7 games
Law 311 runs at 77.75
Raziuddin 292 runs at 146

Bowling

Mckinlay 20 wickets at 9.6 (3.3 rpo)
Blackbourn 18 wickets at 14.89 (3.62 rpo)
O'connor 10 wickets at 12.2 (3.13 rpo)

All rounders

Etherington 10 wickets at 19, and 189 runs at 189 !
Schoeman 11 wickets at 12.91 and 291 runs at 97.

Season's not over yet!

End of Over 13: 95-0, runrate=7.31
Blizzard 7-0-56-0
Bartlett* 44 (36 balls)
Flood 48 (44 balls)

First half of the season was great only losing twice, (once to the team who finished bottom, they ended up doing the double over me!) but losing 6 in the second half of the season means I ended in 6th and have got a really easy qualifier, so I can TIE and get my team fitness and morale up and increase my members mood too, ready for my TIE'ing of the 20/20 games.

Anyone want to be my scoring bitch today?

Got to admit, I don't overly fancy my chances today. My batting is looking a bit weak and two of my three star batsmen are desperately short of runs in recent games despite supposedly being in superb form.

We can tell you that Battel Bonfires won the toss and elected to field. The pitch is looking a bit on the dry side. A fair bit of help for the spinners I think on this partially cloudy and humid day.

End of Over 19: 101-1, runrate=5.32
Woods 10-0-41-0
Canning* 11 (13 balls)
Griffith 48 (58 balls)

Last Wicket: Keigher b. Reet 41 (FOW: 87/1)

Cheers. Looks like I've done a MrB with my team selection, as Canning was supposed to be dropped for Holt. If its gone to my default line-up then at least I shouldn't have my wicketkeeper opening the bowling.

Keigher was my batsman in the best nick leading up to this one. Slightly worrying to see him out, but nevermind.

I'm pleased to see its a partially cloudy and humid day, as this should help my seamers and hopefully help negate his home advantage a little. He has a very, very good spinner and so plays on a turning track. I expect he'll play at least two spinners and they will no doubt be difficult to score off. I think I'll end up collapsing against the spin, its a case of whether that is once I've scored 150 or 250.

Bartlett 83 (69 balls)

24.6 1 Norris to Flood
Flood mistimes that but picks up a run anyway.
And that's a century for Flood! Well played indeed Sir!

Canning's slow scoring is annoying.

Toddy - how many runs do your batsman need to get for you to feel confident that your bowling attack won't throw it away?

Geoff_Boycotts_Grandmother XI have picked Griffith, Keigher, Canning, Thomas, Finnan, Pembridge, Ramsden, Mcintosh, Livingstone, Daniels, Dawson.

End of Over 30: 114-1, runrate=3.80
Haynes 5-3-4-0

You'll be happy about this then

32.4 W Law to Canning
Canning looks up sheepishly at the umpire, he knew he was gone there.

End of Over 33: 125-2, runrate=3.79
Law 7-2-14-1
Thomas* 1 (2 balls)
Griffith 57 (85 balls)

Last Wicket: Canning lbw b. Law 25 (FOW: 124/2)

I'd rather he'd batted no.7 or 8 and still be a wicket in hand.

He's actually a destructive batsman!

I reckon I'll collapse to 170 all out.

33.2 1 Ince to Bartlett
He hasn’t quite timed that, but they’ll still come through for a single.
And that's a century for Bartlett! Well played indeed Sir!

End of Over 34: 242-0, runrate=7.12
Ince 7-0-44-0
Flood* 132 (115 balls)
Bartlett 100 (92 balls)

End of Over 35: 138-2, runrate=3.94
Haynes 6-3-10-0
Griffith* 63 (88 balls)
Thomas 8 (11 balls)

Last Wicket: Canning lbw b. Law 25 (FOW: 124/2)
