I went with The Exorcist, easily.

I assume we're talking the American re-hash of the Japanese original? If it were the original version, the vote would have been a closer run thing... albeit the same conclusion.

I only just saw this chain... so wondering... were Rosemary's Baby or Repulsion in the running (although the latter was more of a psychological thriller-cum-urban horror)?

I'm afraid Rosemary's Baby didn't make it. I've not heard of Repulsion.

ps yes the American rehash - that's what stevie wanted.

How can the (inferior) American version be acknowledged when its very being is solely due to an original work NOT acknowledged. Disgrace.
Probably because nobody has seen the original.

Repulsion is well worth checking out. Just like Rosemary's Baby, it is directed by Polanski (when he was good).

Shame about Rosemary's Baby.

Also, honarary mention to a number of Cronenberg classics:

Shivers
Rabid
The Brood
Scanners

And Romero classics:

Original 'Dead' trilogy
Martin
The Crazies

I never really got into Cronenberg - maybe I should give him another try.

Re the Ring - I saw the remake first, which was a mistake - then saw the original. The novel, on which the whole saga is based, is very good as well. Ring 0 is OK, but Ring 2 etc not so good.

Regarding Japanese horror I love the original Grudge, and Audition. Japanese filmmakers take it one step beyond...

First saw Audition at The Prince of Wales Theatre off Leicester Square and have a copy on DVD. The final 3rd is quite something, although its not quite a horror film per se. Takashi Miike is one of the better Japanese horror / thriller directors.

Hmmm, think I'm fighting a losing battle here...

Well done Napster for making the final and organizing this competition. Getting to the semi's is something a Scotsman like myself can only dream of so i'm delighted lol
