BBBC has said that he turned down more money elsewhere to stay with Southend. He spoke to other clubs on his agents advice but revealed the main reason he stayed was because of his relationship with the fans. He wants to stay here and be remembered. (Echo)

Bearing in mind it's really only here and twitter at the moment where players can gauge anything at all from the fans, I reckon the "please stay Barry" posts have influenced the big mans decision.

I don't think the comments on here would be a material factor but certainly better than having "no great loss if he leaves" remarks.
