Barnard In Richards Off

More importantly though, these continual bland comments and excuses from Tilson have to stop. "We defended poorly" "We gave away silly goals" ! Either get your finger out or make way for someone who can instill some discipline and professionalism in this team. Mediocrity rules OK!

well I've seen him many times including the reserves and there is no doubt that he is not the greatest central defender to don a blue shirt . That said I would hope that his departure means we are about to sign someone as last night proved that we are hopeless at the back (once again ) and the lads from the Yooofs are not ready yet to step up to this level IMHO

It would concern me if Richards is allowed to leave. It would show that Tilson is unable to see where some of the team's key frailties lie and would also leave us very, very thin in another key area.

Unless of course someone else is coming in to replace him??

I am quite concerned at Tilly's apparent inability to see the problems in the defence anyway! :p

Hopefully last night was the spark for him realising.
As I've said for weeks, we need a Huddersfield away (Dec05) style no-nonsense defending type performance. Everytime the ball comes anywhere near the danger-areas, it gets hoofed up the park or into Row Z. A couple of solid away clean-sheets and the confidence has grown once more.

There have been a few games which I would have hoped would spark his realisation that our defence is woeful.
So far, he has not. And now even if he does realise, we only have eight days to source reinforcement....

And as I keep banging on about, 2 of those types of solid experienced defenders we urgently need have slipped the net, e.g. Page & Bignot :(

Funny old game, sure this time last week SZ was awash with moans about strikers and the lack of, two games later and we're moaning about the defence.

Ah...hindsight!

Not me!
People have wanted 2 strikers for months, I've said if we can only realistically afford 3 players, it should be a GK, a centre-half & a striker!

I too have been advocating the purchase of defenders for some time. Some of our defending last night was embarrassing, and hopefully it has FINALLY hammered the point home to Tilly....

Yep, I've been another expressing our urgent need for an experienced defender. Thing is I have no ideas as to who is available, in our price range and willing to join.

A striker has been a priority ever since Freddy left, and with Bradbury, Paynter, Foran all leaving the situation has become more important, especially with Hooper, Harrold and MacDonald struggling for goals.

However, I think this issue has overshadowed the need to bolster the defence, and many people on here (including me!) have been saying that this is more important than the forwards for months.

We are scoring enough goals from midfield and the odd one from forwards to at least make a decent stab at the play-offs, if and only if, we improve the defence.

It does not take a genius, to look at the league table and realise that only 2 or 3 teams have scored more than we have this season, and only 2 or 3 have conceeded more than we have to find out where the problem lies.

I hate to single out one player, but In League 2 we had a defence that was only bettered by 2 teams, and he defence was only bettered by Colchester in our Championship winning year. Then we introduce Peter Clarke, who came from a Blackpool team whose defence was not great (64 against in 2005-06), and then after he left they got promoted with a good defence(49 against in 2006-07), and ever since our defence has been almost the worst in the football league.

55 Sheffield Wednesday (9-D1) 66 34 100
56 Colchester United (10-D1) 56 46 102
57 Barnet (14-D3) 70 32 102
58 Lincoln City (5-D3) 59 44 103
59 Wrexham (19-D3) 65 39 104
60 Coventry City (17-D1) 62 44 106
61 Port Vale (12-D2) 65 41 106
62 Norwich City (16-D1) 71 35 106
63 Queens Park Ran (18-D1) 68 40 108
64 Grimsby Town (15-D3) 73 36 109
65 Huddersfield Town (15-D2) 69 42 111
66 Crewe Alexandra (13-D2) 72 42 114
67 Leyton Orient (20-D2) 77 37 114
68 Luton Town (23-D1) 81 33 114
69 AFC Bournemouth (19-D2) 64 52 116
70 Gillingham (16-D2) 77 39 116
71 Brentford (24-D2) 79 38 117
72 Macclesfield Town (22-D3) 77 42 119
73 Southend United (22-D1) 80 40 120
74 Barnsley (20-D1) 85 41 126
75 Accrington Stanley (20-D3) 81 49 130

Blackpool are 27th in the list, even with half a season in the championship. If T & B can't see this fact then they should question themselves.

That is depressingly strong evidence.... :(

Tilly said Liptak would take six months to get ready for English football and learn the language etc. Maybe with those six months now up, he sees no reason for Richards and Liptak is soon to break through....
