Back to Work for Pre-Season

inconvenient but compared to previous issues faced preseason it's not the end of the world. Lot of fitness work initially. Think it was hoped the training ground would be really impressive for the players return after the way the season ended, and it is, apart from the grass. More security, better facilities etc.
It's ideal weather for getting it up to speed and it's improved hugely
In just the past week.
That's good to hear mate. I know they had a few cabins left to do last season. I think one was the analysis room. Don't know if that's been done. The gym and the new equipment looks really nice and a far cry from the environment they had to use last year.

I know things take time and I've always championed patience, but there will come a time when we will have to stop saying, "things were worse before, so this doesn't matter too much." To be a proper professional club that is well respected, we need to try and break away from those days at some point and let go of that shackle. We've become far too accepting of negative things being acceptable. That culture change will take time to fully evolve.

I have been an advocate of patience myself but I do feel COSU have brought us back to a position where those within the game do perceive us as professionally run and we have regained respect. Thankfully this is down to COSU not having that acceptance that 'things have been worse' for them it's been about this is wrong and we need to put it right.
Yes the mindset of fans does need to evolve to a forward looking trajectory and in so doing we become a more effective watchdog of our ownerships ongoing performance. As for COSU their ethos has always been about focusing on the future.

Totally agree. There were a few break ins last year and IT stuff stolen but more secure now. I
I think we're getting there and as you say, it's time to cut out the mishaps completely.

Valid points, but for the amount of money they have pumped into that training ground and Roots Hall's new pitch, one wouldn't have thought they would have left such decision making down to just the groundsman. I wouldn't have thought they would just think, oh he'll sort it out and we won't bother checking. Equally, that would show a deep level of incompetence on the groundsman's part of he did just bugger off on holiday and without sorting out what was happening in his absence. As you say, I hope lessons have been learned.

I stand by it, whoever's fault it is, it shouldn't have happened.
Why? Why can't the groundsman be expected to say to his team, "I'm on holiday for week or so, please make sure you turn on the sprinkler"?

Agree it shouldn't have happened though.

But if he has a 'team', why did no one else notice that the sprinklers didn't come on at least once during his time away?

With how intense the weather was, you'd had thought someone would have checked/noticed.

As we said, let's hope it's lessons learned.

Exactly. It's up to them to organise themselves, no-one else. But yes, I'm sure lessons will be learned as this has probably been an expensive mistake.

Too busy watching the grass grow.

Grass is resilient so it should be ok eventually, although if this is the pitch at Roots Hall which has just been re-seeded then it's going to take time as the the little seedlings that might have started to grow have now gone dormant due to lack of water.

They need to get some roots grown to ensure it's a strong stable playing surface. Otherwise we're going to have what we had a several years ago where the pitch wasn't rooted very well and it was literally lifting off from every tackle (I think it was becayse there was a delay in getting the turf lifted as the machine they had booked broke down doing West Hams)

Cant a pitch last more than one season?
Should've able to in my opinion. But if you rent the pitch out at the end if the season which basically runs the risk of quite a bit of damage, as long as the money from renting it out covers the cost of reseeding etc then it is done.
