I'd assume anyone who wants sex with a 2 year old is insane, and thereby, by dint of that insanity, he should not pay the ultimate price for his actions.

Alternatively, I could aruge that if he was indeed sane, no one was actually killed....

He may be insane, but I would be happier if society cured itself of this vermin through extermination, rather than wasting its time and resources trying to cure it of its 'madness'. Nothing gruesome, just put them down. No festering on death row, no appeals to line the pockets of opportunist lawyers - just immediate extermination.
