Atmosphere and singing

charisma

Am I missing something or was the Hall especially quiet yesterday?
I was unusually in the Lower South, but apart from the goals, I could'nt detect any encouragement or the normal anthems. Is this perculiar to the Lower South or was there a general calm around the Ground?

I agree Roots Hall was not its usual rocking self yesterday, us fans had a off day...... we will be back.....

Glad it wasn't just me then. What do we have to do to recreate the Roots Hall Roar?
What happened to the drummers?
Can no-one be bothered to sing especially, after Tranmere scored?

Nothing new. Roots Hall has been like that for the last 15 years or so.

I noticed that it was even quieter than usual, which is quiet enough. Tried to get a few chants going in the East Blacks to the usual apathy apart from a few lads up the back.

The people who watch my Sunday League games create more noise than they do at Highbury

Judging by the responses so far, we all tend to agree it was quiet and I hope agree this should not be the situation.
So how do we get our fellow supporters to up the noise level with singing/chanting encouragement?
This has to add extra zest to the Team and put off the opposition.

Don't go straining your throat and missing Sunday's game.....

I wasn't feeling very well and had I not got a lift down to the ground probably would not of gone. I had trouble clapping let alone singing.

Does anyone think it maught have something to do with not having a clear singing/chanting leader?
Do we need more songs we can call our own, rather than the general football stuff sung at every other league ground?
Should the "band" be re-instated, or perhaps even doubled, co-ordinated of course, between South and West stands?

If this lack of participation continues, teams coming to the Hall with 250 supporters will make more noise than the home contingent.

I think a really, really good way of generating true footballing passion is to turn the tannoy up really, really loud before the game and deafen people with crap music. That will definitely get fans singing and chanting and getting behind their team before the game kicks off.

Incidentally, has music always been played over the tannoy before kick-off? If not, when was it introduced?

The new matchday announcer didn't get exactly get the crowd going, he tried but failed miserably. And who are Yeovil City? :P Not as good as the one and only Jeff Allen. Why's he gone?

I agree the atmosphere was poor yesterday, probably because we had all the fairweathers for the family fun day. We make loads of noise at away game so it's confusing why we don't make as much noise at Roots Hall. Bring back drums I say, they've virtually disappeared from football these days.

Is the new matchday announcer Jobson's assitant?

I thought the atmosphere was ok. The thing is at home games everyone sits in different places, but at away games everyone is together, thats why there's more noise. As for the drum thats in the loft....

Seemed pretty good in the RBS.

However, on 2 occasions we tried the "stand up if you love Southend" bit and no-one else joined in.

spot on.

Hmmm, two consecutive posts where I've agreed with you Matt. This is worrying.
