Yeah, it's encouraged your brother to chip in with comments about good keepers on the one hand, and dodgy midget south-coast flappers on the other hand...

I might ask Mr King what our chances of reclaiming the North bank are!

I'm pretty sure this has'nt been covered before.

There you go, back to topic!

Isnt that the beauty of message boards though, the ability to drift in and out of pretty much any topic possible regardless of the thread title?

I mean I dont think I have read one thread/topic on here that has completely stuck to the title yet, so why should this be any different!

There you go, thread on and off topic all in one sentence.

Surely he also has to be asked whether he thinks Kevin Maher is any good or not? And does he think he should be Captain?

Dear Mr King,

What is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow?

Dear Mr. King,
I would like to thank you for this opportunity to ask questions of you with regard to Southend United Football Club. Perhaps my first question should be, how many things the fans need to know are you keeping secret until a direct question is asked? Surely if we are interested to know you should have put up the information on the official site with or without request. As it appears questions are necessary then here goes;
What is happening about the plans for FF? Not wanting to fuel the Bart v Flav debate but I would suggest Flavs is not handling the plans as he has not left anything slip.
[/I]As Corbett, Kightly and Husbands played little or no part in our season could you not have terminated their contracts early, paid them up and brought in one or two more able replacements sooner that might have eased the pressure on a small squad?
Are you going to do anything to redress the disgusting performance of Blues World last season and reward those that subscribed with a discount this term?
Are we going to hear Blues related news on the official site before the Echo and other media outlets report it?
Will making Roots Hall a no smoking venue reduce insurance costs?
Will you, the management and players make yourself available on-line, chat room style, to talk to the fans?
Is the club shop ever going to realise its potential or continue to be a token gesture?
Will the catering facilities ever allow customers to watch a whole match and not miss chunks in horrendous queues?
Will you pass on my and other fans heartiest congratulations for a splendid season and accept our thanks for fulfiling our hopes and desires?. Well done Guv!!

Quote[/b] (Richard_Cadette @ June 07 2005,11:01)]Not wanting to turn this thread into a 'Daryl Vs Bart' comparison, I would agree with TTK that Daryl is a far superior keeper to Bart, and in all honesty, a far better keeper than any other I have seen in this Division.

I dont dislike Bart, and he has done OK when hes been playing for us.  However, I would say that Daryl's all round game is much better than Bart's.

His biggest criticism was that he didnt come for enough crosses, always stayed on his line, and didnt command his area, well that is one part of his game that he has worked on, and having a decent Number Two pushing him for a place has improved his game no end.

Your saying that he didnt have a good game against Lincoln, well in my opinion, he made a concious decision to come for everything seeing as Lincoln are very good at set plays, and yes, one or two of them he didnt quite get there, but his positive attitude probably enabled us to keep the clean sheet.

And some people are forgetting that had it not have been for Daryl, we would not have been in the final anyway.  His two wonder saves against Northampton (Kirk at the death in the away leg, and McGleish at the death in the home leg) ensured we went through, and no disrespect to Bart, I dont think he would have got anywhere near either of them, and Northampton would have been through.

He has been almost faultless this season, and he has to be offered a decent contract, and he has to be made Number One for next season.

We seem to have an obsession at Roots Hall of trying to replace Daryl, well its been tried twice now, and both times he has proved that he is better than the competition.

As I said, I dont have anything against Bart, but I feel a lot safer with Daryl between the sticks, and as for shot stopping, you cant honestly say there is anyone in our league better can you?
Couldn't agree more mate!

100% correct what your saying and i think it's sense you speak, unlike some on here

Please tell me you're having a laugh.

We beat Lincoln partly because, somehow, it was destined to be our day.  But that was despite Flahavan's "best" efforts, frankly.  It was ineptitude on a grand scale which on any other day would have been punished.

Were it not for some profligate finishing (by Yeo in particular) and two excellent blocks on the line by Beno and Che, we'd be looking at bottom flight football again this season because of  Flavs.

Surely only the most one-eyed Flahavan devotee can believe he had anything other than a calamitous game in the final.

Parting thought: how come, despite appearing in a side with one of the stingiest defences in the league, Flahavan never gets anywhere near the team of the season, or even the team of the week, in the newspapers or the other independently judged awards?

Two brilliant games against Northampton (which prompted Calderwood's lionisation of Darryl) does not make him a great keeper.  He is one who is improving; he's a great squad keeper.  He's probably worth hanging on to.  But "a far better keeper than any other I've seen in this division"?

You're having a laugh, aren't you?

Matt
I think your having a laugh in all honesty!

You surely hate Flahavan dont you!!!

Shame on you!!

lets be honest, its not Daryl's fault hes not the tallest, and had he of not come for some of those crosses, I would bet money on the fact they would have scored.
No, I'm not.  You're the one making excuses for him in the final.  Darryl is an averagely good lower division keeper, who is great at shot stopping and not much else.  I certainly thought that all of the following were at least as good, if not better keepers, than Darryl:

Willy Gueret (Swansea)
Lee Harper (Northampton)
Neil Edwards (Rochdale)
Glyn Garner (Bury)
John Ruddy (Cambridge)
Bart Griemink (Southend)

And those are the ones I can think of just off the top of my head.  The fact remains, the last time we were promoted out of this division, we had Paul Sansome in goal.  Flavs is nowhere  near as good as Sammy was.

I'd like to see someone of Sammy's quality between the sticks, with Flavs as his number two.  That's all, really.

Matt

P.S. Do we normally disagree about football matters...?!  I honestly can't remember.

You really dont rate Darryl do you!!
