Arsenal beat Bar$S

I'm not aware of any glory-hunting barca fans on here. Stop being antagonistic

Could be right - but lots of glory hunting journos in the press saying Bar$a are the best thing since sliced bread which they are not (hang on sliced bread is crap so perhaps I am wrong) Very impressed with Arsenal (even when they were losing) - winning goal was magic - most players would have just blasted it

True, I was really getting fed up with the cretin Tyldeseley last night, when Arshavin scored his comment was something like "Straight out of the Barcelona book of football" ****ing knob. We get the same patronising bullcrap when Brazil are on.

I really enjoyed the match last night which lived up to its billing, Arsenal are the only premier league team I'd pay to watch (beyond my Sky subscription that is).

I'd agree with that, half of Tyldesley's nonsense last night utterly cretinous... He was banging on about Dani Alves not being a full-back. Correctumondo, Clive, but neither does he profess to be. If you paid a moments worth of attention to the game, you'd realise that Barca play something akin to the "WM" Rinus Michels tactic with two wing-backs, rather than traditional full-backs.

As for being a "glory hunting Barca fan", I couldn't give a toss if they win or lose. In fact, the only team I give a toss about winning is Southend. I just admire the ethos and approach they have to football both on and off the field. It's a complete contrast to 95% of EPL nonsense and it's refreshing to watch.

Few great stats from last night's game that I pulled out for my site:

Xavi's pass completion rate: 94.2%
Iniesta's: 95.6%
Wilshere's: 93.5%

Don't think anyone on here is a "Barce glory-supporter", but you can't help admire their abilities and ethics.

Just look at the stats posted above and you can see why Xavi and Iniesta are raved about so highly.

Didn't watch the whole game, but sounds like Wilshere had a cracker. Both of the Arsenal goals had some intelligent shooting from them, with Van Persie spotting Valdes off his line and leaving a big gap at his front post, and Arshavin sweetly put away the second, when most players would have blasted it.

Can't wait for the second leg!

Seeing as I don't support any club except Southend I just want teams that play entertaining football to get through, I want Barcelona through because they play great football but I don't really care if Arsenal get through instead

I enjoyed ten man Real Madrid beating Espanyol a whole lot more, particularly after the cheating little ******* got Casillas sent off.

Considering that Espanyol had transferred two promising young defenders for a combined total of 10 million euros and not replaced their injured star striker Osvaldo with a loan player in the transfer window(unlike Real Madrid)I thought Espanyol played pretty well, though I'd agree RM were the better team on the night.Ronaldo and Marcello, in particular, were both oustanding.Great atmosphere. The sending off was richly deserved.Only a pity that Callejon didn't make it to the box. Then it would have been a penalty as well.

Wilshere was superb, he didn't look out of place against players like Xavi and Inestia which is scary at his age!

What a wonderful evening of tippytoe-tapas football that was! I couldn't see Arsenal getting back into it even when Barca had taken their foot off the gas. Like Brettie said though, Wilshere was excellent and is the best midfield prospect England have seen in a long time. Robin Van Persie's goal was an opportunist cracker and as for the great team goal that brought about the winner ... well, hey man, that was something else.

I'm not so sure... Barca will be without Pique, but then they welcome back Puyol and Barcelona haven't lost at home this season when Puyol has played.

Arsenal definitely can win, they've proven that, but they need everybody to play to the near peak of their abilities. I definitely think we'll see Arsenal play on the counter-attack. Wenger has said that he won't abandon his principles for a win, but there's so many things wrong with that statement. Ferguson learnt long ago that you can't win it all playing the "right" way and you will have to mix it up.

I don't think they've been able to 'do ugly' since they've lost the more able defensive and/or tackling midfielders they once had ... Gilberto Silva was probably the last decent one, although the Jamie Lawrence lookey-likey the other night was quite amusing! It's a Barca win for me despite derisive disdain from the Cornella. :moon:

No disdain. As I've said elsewhere on this thread I think Bar$a will probably be able to turn it round. After all they've got that precious away goal.I've put the feelers out amongst my Bar$a contacts and am hoping to get a ticket -to cheer on Arsenal.:winking:
