Must have missed that then, the club are doing great?

Last time I checked we were about to make club history for the most games without a win, whilst being marooned far adrift at the bottom of the Championship.

If that is great, I would hate to see your definition of terrible!

yeah i wouldn't quite say we are doing great at the moment

. we need more effort and 110% commitment for the squad and the fans. i do feel the team owe us a good performance and dare i say even a win!

a. Looked forward to going to a match or
b. Actually enjoyed watching a match

Last Saturday for me was a new experience - Not once in 25 years have I ever come out of a match after watching us lose and just not giving a sh*t!

Of course we all expected this season to be difficult, and I said at the start we would be in a relegation battle, thats fine, I have no problem with it.

Trouble is, were not in a fight, in fact, fight is the one thing missing from our football team at the moment, and last Saturday was a huge low point for me supporting the team I love.

Dont get me wrong, I wont stop going, I would never do that, and I will be there at Carrow Road, Ricoh Arena and Ninian Park but I am now asking myself why when I am not enjoying it one single bit?  I guess thats what they call unconditional love!

But I dont know how anyone can enjoy the tripe which is being served up right now - I got to watch Southend, if I wanted to see the likes of Leeds and Co play every week, I would go and support one of them, my only interest is my football team!
RC - do you not think that enjoyment is about the day as a whole, rather than just the game itself (which admittedly hasn't been all that of late)?

I still enjoy catching up with my mates, the banter, a few beers before and after the game, wondering how all the other clubs are getting on etc...

Although we've been playing poorly, we've still seen some pretty good games at the Hall this year.

As for not remembering the last time you looked forward to or enjoyed a match, I'll jog your memory for you - Bristol City at home last May? Not really that long ago is it.

Yup, agreed, which is part of the reason I will never stop going.

Even more so on away trips, it is about the whole day as well as just being about the 90 minutes.... Good job as well at the moment!!

Yeah, of course I remember Bristol City, although in fairness, it does seem like eons ago now!

The problem is, the 90 minutes is the focal point of the days events, and that part of it is wholly unenjoyable at the moment, and even in the depths of League Two in Alvin Martin's reign, scrap that, even in Bobby Moore'e reign, I can never remember coming out of the Hall and feeling completely numb like I did on Saturday, and that is saying something!

i can't really say i agree with you, we've had nothing but success in the past few years, and fare point we are going through a tough patch at the moment and very tough one. but its all part of being a supporter. the highs and lows that whats its about. if we won all the time we would be like chelsea
wow.gif
. just stick with!

Quote[/b] (Sussex Shrimper @ Dec. 08 2006,10:27)]This is just one season, and I care far more about getting the go ahead for the stadium and making sure that next time we're in this division we're competing on a (relatively) level playing field.
My sentiments exactly. Whilst losing week in week out as we have been doing lately and walking away from Roots Hall disappointed I remind myself exactly where we have come from in the last three years and just try to enjoy the experience the 'big' teams bring to games on a Saturday afternoon.

I would love to survive in this league but just like others I find myself strangely resigned to the fact we will be playing League 1 football next season.

With the new stadium and Ron's comments in the Echo the other day concerning his commitment to doing whatever it takes to make Southend United a respected club that not only survives in the CCC but can also challenge the big boys of the league I for one am not going to fret about the possibility of a free fall through the leagues the like of which we saw back in the 90's.

In Tilly & Brush we have the right managerial combination to make this club a success and in Ron we have a Chairman with ambition the likes of which this club has never seen in it's entire 100 year history.

Whilst what's happening on the pitch now is extremely disappointing and frustrating I have never been more confident, and in a strange way, have not looked forward to the future of our club with such optimism and confidence.

The futures bright, the futures BLUE......
Well said.
I too am very interested in the prospect of the new stadium. Three years ago who would have thought we would be playing championship football - yet here we are! So to say that us going down this year will mean a freefall into the conference is most likely wrong.

I think Ron is brilliant his comments on the OS today show just how commited he is to our club and its supporters.

I too am disappointed with the way the team is performing but think as a whole the club is on the up. So I am going to continue enjoying watcher the bigger clubs at the hall and continue supporting the team right until the end of the season. Whatever happens - up or down I will still be there next season with my season ticket enjoying supporting the team as I have done and always will.

I'm still looking forward to matches and I'm still enjoying the football experiance. Lets be honest, this is nowhere near as depressing a season as several we've had at the bottom of League Two. At least we're losing to good teams packed full of good players.

I can't say I'm overly enjoying the football itself, but thats part and parcel of being a fan.

Game by game it is probably not very enjoyable.
each game dilutes very very slightly the good times of the past three seasons. those years, combined with Man U still leave me massively in credit when it comes to feeling good.

the only thing which does get me down , tbh , is the atmosphere at the games, I am not talking about people being quiet , lack of singing, i personally don't like the slagging off of the team, the abuse aimed at individuals within the team and the general hostile atmosphere.
Poor football will not stop me going to the games. unfortunately not liking my surroundings may well..............

Not enjoying being a shrimpers supporter at the moment but im taking the loosing well. I have never been a fan who goes to every game and probably never will, altough there is nothing better than being at the hall!

I prefer going to the night games, there havnt been as many at home lately though.

Away from southend im loving football as much as ever or even more! Started a team with friends and im constantly playing fifa or fm

Indeed, whilst Im just trying to enjoy each game as it comes now, with the expectation we will go down, the atmosphere was pretty bitter against Wolves and I cant see how its going to get better unfortunately.

Last week was disappointing insofar as I saw men playing for my club who weren't demonstraing enough effort, commitment, and, dare I say, passion.

If we go out and try as hard as we can and end up losing then no  real Shrimper will blame the players too much; stroll around like you can't wait to get off to the club with your mates and you'll hear booing ringing in your ears as you leave the pitch.

Am I enjoying my football this season?  To be honest, apart from the Barnsley and Wolves matches, yes.  Promotion to this league was always going to mean some tough times competing against much better funded clubs with premiership-quality players.  I'd always hoped though that we'd compete against the likes of Luton, Barnsley, QPR, Plymouth, and Col U.

I'm still harbouring some hope somewhere that there will be three teams worse than us over the whole season... and that one of them will be the cheating, diving, carrot-crunching farmers from Inbredtown.

The other thing that I'd like to add to this thread (and yes, I am an eternal optimist) is that the one good thing about persistent failure is that is doesn't half make the success taste sweet when it eventually arrives.

Just keep bottling it up and let it explode when we eventually win.
