The Business
For the first time in god knows how many years Dad of DtS has decided he wont be going to the Boxing Day game at Norwich as he dosent fancy it. I am in the same zone but have not decided yet.

Normally Fridays are a write off for me as I am looking forward to a trip to Roots Hall but at the moment I am almost dreading it as I am just expecting a defeat.

Last season I only missed four/five all season and yet now I dont have much motiviation. Even Coventry away does not appeal and its a fairly easy one slap bang in the middle of the Xmas period - And i am off the whole time.

Yet talking to a mate of mine he says he is enjoying this season as much as last because we are seeing better players, bigger teams.

My question is are you still enjoying this season or has it really put you on a downer.

DtS

Last week's game was a bit of a turning point for me. I had been going away from games feeling disappointed but now I can't help but feel that it's over anyway, so there's little point beating yourself up over it.

We'll start next season in League 1. So what? To be honest I see us as a top half of league 1 club in the immediate future - we're certainly not bigger than the likes of Swansea or Forest. It's still a step up from where we were starting every season not so long ago, with little prospect of improvement.

If your ambition is small then the disappoint wont be as great.

Thats why im seathing at the current position

Still see me mates, still have fun, my lad still likes going. Yes, this season is like most others - lose a lot more than we win - so the disappointment level is conditioned to being that much lower and therefore the enjoyment factor is still very much as high as it was, Brian.

It's the analogy of the coal-face and the hill-top again .....

Not particularly enjoying it, I have to admit.

Seems like the same story has run for too many weeks now.

Life's too short to stress over things which you have no control over. I go to the football to be entertained. Even if we did survive this year it'd only be to face another relegation scrap next time and to be honest that's not much fun in my book. We've taken two steps forward, now we're taking one step back. This is just one season, and I care far more about getting the go ahead for the stadium and making sure that next time we're in this division we're competing on a (relatively) level playing field.

I would take year after year of relegation scraps in the Championship than season after season of almost promotions from League One.

I wish I didnt stress but i do, and I cant change that. Football to me takes away some rationality, but i think its partly because of that I love the game so much

My sentiments exactly. Whilst losing week in week out as we have been doing lately and walking away from Roots Hall disappointed I remind myself exactly where we have come from in the last three years and just try to enjoy the experience the 'big' teams bring to games on a Saturday afternoon.

I would love to survive in this league but just like others I find myself strangely resigned to the fact we will be playing League 1 football next season.

With the new stadium and Ron's comments in the Echo the other day concerning his commitment to doing whatever it takes to make Southend United a respected club that not only survives in the CCC but can also challenge the big boys of the league I for one am not going to fret about the possibility of a free fall through the leagues the like of which we saw back in the 90's.

In Tilly & Brush we have the right managerial combination to make this club a success and in Ron we have a Chairman with ambition the likes of which this club has never seen in it's entire 100 year history.

Whilst what's happening on the pitch now is extremely disappointing and frustrating I have never been more confident, and in a strange way, have not looked forward to the future of our club with such optimism and confidence.

The futures bright, the futures BLUE......

God, some people are fickle.

You've got 15 points already haven't you?? The fact that you've been overtaken by a team starting ten points behind is irrelevant....

Its very enjoyable watching Southend line up against the likes of Birmingham and Leeds. Only 2 years ago we were playing the likes of Bury and Rochdale.
I would take a season of finishing rock bottom in the championship anytime over an average season in League 2.

its been great seeing all the higher league teams but no one likes to lose, i still love going and am always looking forward to the next game. some people are sayign they don't mind going back to league 1 but i really want us to just survive this season and go on from there

I cannot remember the last time I actually

a. Looked forward to going to a match or
b. Actually enjoyed watching a match

Last Saturday for me was a new experience - Not once in 25 years have I ever come out of a match after watching us lose and just not giving a sh*t!

Of course we all expected this season to be difficult, and I said at the start we would be in a relegation battle, thats fine, I have no problem with it.

Trouble is, were not in a fight, in fact, fight is the one thing missing from our football team at the moment, and last Saturday was a huge low point for me supporting the team I love.

Dont get me wrong, I wont stop going, I would never do that, and I will be there at Carrow Road, Ricoh Arena and Ninian Park but I am now asking myself why when I am not enjoying it one single bit? I guess thats what they call unconditional love!

But I dont know how anyone can enjoy the tripe which is being served up right now - I got to watch Southend, if I wanted to see the likes of Leeds and Co play every week, I would go and support one of them, my only interest is my football team!

?

they were good games where we play really well and was a great atmosphere???
OK, I will give you Man Utd, and yes, of course I enjoyed Sunderland, but that was nearly four months ago mate.

How can you go that long without winning a game?

As I believe the title of the thread says, are you still enjoying your football this season... still being the operative word.

The answer is wholeheartedly NO!!

you make your own reality -

on Saturday will be looking forward to turning the corner and getting SUFC established in the second tier of the best football league in the world - and developing more and more.

looking forward to competing in the cups - incl Spurs

looking forward to watching our young players (incl Freddy)
continue to develop

looking forward to the game on saturday and looking forward to a good result -

not interested in league one or two or going back to the
LDV vans trophy -

other people will be waking up looking forward to a day of
moaning and misery and spreading despair and a feeling
of defeat - amazing really.

The club is doing great and if we can keep it together we
can go a lot further -

i like the way you think, i also look forward to going to every game. people may think your being a bit to positive but thats there problem not yours. as long as your enjoying it thats all that maters

gd on ya mate

Atill enjoying the fact we are in the championship and the fact we are playing big teams now.

Since accepting the inevitablity of relegation not getting as fed up after each game.

Just want to get a few home wins just to give us something to cheer about.
