Aol, sorry, AOHell are possibly the worse dial-up internet providers in the known universe. I have been disconnected For no valid reason six times in the past ten minutes.

How am I supposed to live my student life of laying in bed, watching TV and surfing the net if they keep disconnecting me?!?

Damn them to hell.

BT isn't much better for me at the moment. Been without a phoneline and a Broadband connection since last Saturday which is a shambles. Luckily I have my Vodafone 3G card.

I find using BT broadband is pretty reliable now, but in the early days it was a nightmare! The router they supplied used to keep disconnecting me, but now ive got a belkin wireless adsl router which works great with my laptop.

According to friends AOL provide an unstable internet connection, and it also no good for wirless networking on macs because they don't have apple compatible software.

Yeah never had any problems with BT but it appears to be an area fault with lots of people having been without any sort of working phone line since Saturday.

I'm owed some compensation, but it's not the point.

You're all lucky buggers who have broadband. I can't have it because I "live too far away from your local exchange". Eh? I thought the whole idea of a telephone exchange WAS that it's not very far away?!?

BlueYonder broadband is quality, no problems at all

although that is probably the kiss of death

After teething troubles and cack customer service to start off with, I've been mightily impressed with Bulldog. No problems whatsoever, and the 1Meg speed is always there.

I will second that.

In five years I have only had one problem - and that was when they had their servers stolen from Basildon!

PlusNet - 2mb connection at £14.99 works a treat.
Changed over from my dialup AOL account this week and I am very impressed.
Took about 7 working days from when I first ordered for broadband to being enabled and all set up and running smoothly.
(also if anyone recommends a new convert then the referrer gets 50p off per month off their bill for each new customer they bring - I highly recommend them).
PlusNet

The old dear rang up BT earlier and apparently the upgrade in pace and the fact there is only one filter in my house (when apparently you should have one for every connection) is the problem.

I joined Bulldog last week when I moved house. Managed to squeeze in on their special 2mb offer hours before it closed!

Have been pretty impressed after reading some nightmarish stories on the Bulldog forum - had a few issues last night, did you notice any or was it the 2 hour tropical storm we suffered in t'north...?

Other than that, the lack of email address and webspace was baffling, though I took care of that myself through work. Odd that they dont provide that in this day and age...

I guess by not providing this helps keep down the costs, maintenance of server hardware over network hardware is more time/money consuming.

After supporting servers and now network, I know which kit i prefer to support.
