IMHO if a coach takes 50 people and you have 51 who want to go, you book 2 coaches.

Football clubs are always too willing to subscribe to the "treat 'em mean, keep 'em keen" approach to Customer Service.

it's the trust, not the club. and anyway who is going to pay for the extra coach..? they need a minimum of 15 to make it viable.

The possibility of empty seats should be build into the ticket price. A service that can be relied on to deliver 100% of the time will get more customers in the long term.

I have 2 supermarkets near my home; one of them occasionally sells out of bread. As a consequence, I always shop at the other one to get my bread, fags, beer, crisps, chocolate etc... I often wonder if the manager of the first shop rubs his hands in glee on the days he runs out of bread, thinking "great, today I sold all my bread, I haven't lost anything by throwing away stale bread!".

i see your point but it isn't completely relevent to this problem. the trust obviously are wary to raise their prices as the whole point is that they provide cheap and reliable transport. say they have to add on 25% to cover empty seats then that could easly cause people to switch to trains or cars. i don't think the trust really makes much money on running the coaches and therefore a waiting list is probably the fairest option, rewarding those who book early with cheap travel instead of just raising their prices

there are at least 4 people on the waiting list now then cos me and my friend are on the waiting list

Can someone help? I've just seen DtS' rep comment and can't work out whether I should be pos or neg repping. Inactivity is not an option!
