Anyone got a minibus and want to make a few quid? Cheltenham festival

I am part of a group of 8 going to Cheltenham on Tuesday 15th March. We are travelling from Chelmsford and would like to return on the same day after the racing approx 6pm. Quote we are getting are a bit on the high side (cheapest £550) wondered if any of the SZ lot might fancy a job for the day, I know there is a few cabbies but not sure if they have a minibus.

I used to live in Malvern and used to drive through Cheltenham when I returned to Essex.

When the Cheltenham festival was on there were huge traffic jams for miles outside Cheltenham with lots Ferraris with attractive female passengers and Limos full of Arabs.

Not sure if this is still the case but I would be inclined to get the train.

I've heard the trains are worse and you are sardined from London all the way to Cheltenham. Some of the guys drove last year and said it wasn't too bad

Arabs at Cheltenham indeed. Ruddy faced chinless public school boys in mustard cords perhaps...

I got a train there and back two years ago and had a seat all the way. Train does get a bit lively, mind. Minibus is a good idea - did it for my first Festival, the year of Best Mate's first Gold Cup (!) and our driver parked close enough to the edge of the car park that he was able to make a decent getaway. We were back in Harrow in time to catch everyone piling out of the office and in to the pub...

Phone taxi firms or look up mini bus services or hire one yourself and pick straws for driver!

I reckon taxi mini bus one way £175?

I have done that and the best quote I've got is £500 return (came in shortly after my original post of £550), hence the public plea.

Nobody wants to drive, it just isn't going to happen

Literally never seen any Arabs in my half a dozen visits to the Festival. They prefer the flat.

Irishmen in bad suits further misshapen by wedges of cash though...yes.

Just waiting for an answer from a guy we have used before. Its more a side line for him so I doubt he will be as much as you have been quoted.

Hubby is a licensed multi seater taxi driver based in Castle Point, car takes 8 passengers - 6 in the back (3 rear facing) and 2 in the front. He is free on that day and would be happy to do this job for you, quote (based on cab office price) would be £220 each way, so £440. You could drink (sensibly!) in the taxi, though soilage costs would apply if taken to excess! If you're interested, please pm me and I will forward you his contact number.

There's a few on here who've used him for transport in the past and would (I'm sure!) vouch for him!

Truly vouched.

£440 is a decent quote, the taxi company I use to work for would charge more than that. I only have space for 7 people in my taxi.
