another question

If we are looking at an under 21 international, the question begs, who was the last southend united player to play international soccer while also being in the shrimpers squad?Did Pat Scully play for one of the irish teams while still at the hall? And the next part, how many international players have graced the Southend team sheet at some point of their career?
I don't know the answers to these questions so please try and help me find the answers.

Derek Spence played for N.Ireland (might have been Eire) while a Southend player.

Yes, it was Whelan. Got the last couple of his fifty-odd Ireland caps whilst playing for us. Scully played for Ireland once, but before he joined Southend.

Don't know how many internationals we have had, but the most capped Southend player is George Mackenzie, with 9 for Ireland.

I think Trevor Fitzpatrick may be the last Southend player to have received an international call up of some description whilst at the club.

I also recall such prestigous titles as Blues News and the Wet Sham Echo waxing lyrically about various u-16 internationals for footballing powerhouses such as Wales, that were coming through the youth system and were destined for great things. I think these stories tend to appear once every couple of seasons. Can anyone (ie Exiled Shrimper) explain what happened to these child prodigies?

Only at under-18 level. Which is the same as others since.

Co-incidentally the man who called him up was Brian Kerr.

One goes up, one comes down.

Remember him being in their squad, but not sure if he played.

You sure it wasn't Canvey Island

And wasn't it Graham Taylor that said "I'd have picked Stan Collymore earlier... but I'd have been slaughtered if I'd picked a player from Southend"
