An Introduction...

Vultan

Schoolboy
Hi People,

I'm a newcomer to Southend this season, well not the location, just the team.
Basically I'm a West Ham fan and always have been, I moved down this way back in 1986 and when I did, would always go to upton park...when finances and circumstances allowed. I'm a dedicated follower of football and thoroughly love the game.

Southend are my local club and seeing them on the brink of administration really did get to me...I don't like to see any club go under no matter who they are! Especially my local team, who in my eyes provide the town/area with some great football and fantastic memories. i.e. the cup game v man u, the simon royce/ricky otto days, etc...

Therefore I made a promise to myself this year that I would do my bit to save Southend by going to as many games as I can and obviously enjoying the amenities as well, hopefully with this then putting some money back into the club... I went to Stockport and am going again tonight, and will even try and do some of the away games this season.

I know some of you may not understand this, or hate the idea of another fan following your team, but I would very much like to have input on this forum of my opinion in regards to the team, management, club etc.. therefore if you'd rather me keep stum and go away, just say so and i will, if not then I look forward to speaking to all of you again.

I think thats brilliant and fair play for you for both coming onto the board and being so honest - and also doing your bit to support Southend too!

Good on ya - and welcome!

Welcome ex West Ham, Good to see you've finally realised you where committing a huge crime in supporting that pretend team. ;)

Ofcourse you are welcome on this board.

Good first post, nice and honest.

It's brilliant to see people still care about lower league teams even if it isn't their first supported team.

Welcome!

Welcome to the wonderful world of supporting SUFC Vultan.

And who knows, maybe in time we can rid you of your claret & blue affliction. ;)

Welcome,

As a warning you may well get hooked. Look forward to reading your posts.

Fair play for being honest about it all. I personally have no problem with what you're doing and it makes sense to me, if I ever moved to another area of the country I would probably do the same, blues would always be #1 but I would probably pop along to the local side now and then.

Thanks guys, and don't worry you won't see any west ham clothing...I can respect that within a club!

Also, i guess trying to familiarise myself with the players is pretty same scenario for you guys too.... ;-)

Welcome, Vultan. To be honest, why people support SUFC and where they come from is immaterial. As long as you have affection for the Shrimpers and want to cheer on the boys in blue, then you should always be made welcome at our club and on this website.

Besides, being a Shrimper is... well... better! :) Seriously, you have a far more emotional experience being a Shrimper - the lows are lower (they involve relegations, possible bankruptcies etc) but the highs are higher - we've been to the Millennium Stadium and won things; we've won a league title - and that's all in the last 5 years.

I, for one, don't subscribe to the Premier League hype. If you're not a fan of Man U, Chelsea or Arsenal, you're not going to be lifting a title -or, increasingly, the FA Cup - any time soon. Far better to support a side that might actually win something!

;)

Welcome - and UP THE BLUES! And yes, you're at no disadvantage not knowing the players... the same goes for us too!

:dizzy:

Welcome. I like you not just because of your love of SUFC but because your named after

I'm easily pleased :)

Good point, you couldn't have come to Roots Hall at a better time, you are at exactly the same place as we are! :)

I think it's great that football clubs like ours can assist those who have been afflicted so seriously in their lives. I hope that our own Blues can rid you of the endless pain and suffering you must've felt at the Boleyn ground, and that the likes of Bilel Moshni, Craig Easton and Barry Corr can open your eyes to the fact that not all professional footballers are despicable ***** of the Matthew Upson ilk.

I wish more people would have that attitude.

What woman, having ten silver coins, if she loses one coin, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and seek diligently until she finds it?

Hi Vultan. I'm in a similar position, new to the SZ, having 'emigrated' from Barking in 1971 and have been a Blues supporter since that time. The missus is also a ST holder and loves the atmosphere at the Hall. I started out as a West Ham supporter in 1958 and was fortunate to watch the likes of Moore, Hurst, Peters etc (including in the 1966 World Cup final). So, after Southend, West Ham will be the first result I'll look for and I'll always want them to beat any other team (apart from the Blues). That said, I don't have the same sort of passion for the current team that I had in the 'old days'. I guess once you start to support a team, no matter what happens afterwards, you'll never lose interest in their fortunes.

All the best to all other Blues supporters for the new season.

Welcome, hope your decision is not one you'll regret. Don't think it will be, supporting your local team becomes very addictive!

It's also quite a bit cheaper than going up to West Ham!!!

I have to say, being almost 20, It is really good to see some older posters on this board.
Great to have new guys on here.

I'm 21, you including me in that dave?

Welcome Vultan, and huge respect for leaving behind the wet sham, and especially saying u will not wear their shirt
