Amsterdam

Medway Blue

Trust chairman/glutton for punishment ⭐🦐
So I'm flying out of Southend on Wednesday morning to Amsterdam. Me plus 5 mates, all 23-26 for 2 nights of drunken debauchary. Not gonna lie, it's probably going to be pretty gross.

However, none of us have been. Time will be of the essence, we don't want to spend half the time wandering around and various trip advisor websites are making my head spin!

Who has been and can maybe give some advice?

What is good to see during the day? (yes, we are quite good as a group at managing to do alcohol AND culture on a trip!)

What nightclubs/bars are good to go to by night and where are they?

Is there a particular area of the city that is worth spending tha majority of an evening in?

Is there a particular area where there are a good few restaurants close together with a wide range of food choice? We don't plan on fast-fooding it the WHOLE time...

What are the main tram/metro stops for any places mentioned?

Thanks in advance, Zoners!

There are a few ideas

I went to a great restaurant where the waiters and waitresses burst into song like a musical randomly whilst serving or taking orders. Food was good and great atmosphere. Can't remember the name

She was probably talking normally but as you'd spent the previous 2 hours in a nearby coffee shop it appeared to you she was singing

This.

Heineken Museum is good too. Amsterdam ain't cheap; be prepared to do your conkers.

banana bar is great, you pay one fee to get in and your drinks are free with nude birds doing stuff to each other while pouring you drinks its great.

That is disgusting, how dare they do such rude things while you are trying to have a drink.

What's the address, purely out of interest and so I can avoid such things?

Ah only just realised you said something about money! How expensive are we talking? Can't be much worse than Dublin and Stockholm, two pretty expensive places in my eyes.

As expensive as Stockholm/Copenhagen/Helsinki etc I'm afraid from what I remember - more expensive than Dublin.

If your wallet has survived those places, it'll survive Amsterdam. Although the stag (who of course got his drinks bought all weekend) still admits to being a little embarrassed that he got us to buy his drinks in such an expensive city!

We went three years ago and I seem to remember pints generally being about €5. Go slightly off the tourist trail and you'll pay a little less though.

The Banana Bar is hilarious; the birds are pretty ropey but they're not wearing a stitch. You pay around €40 to be in there for about 45 minutes and it's all you can drink, so don't be fool like me and use that opportunity to drink lager

The stag still has a postcard written to him by one of the bar staff. She wrote it while the end of the pen was stuffed up her...ahem...you know...bits. The writing was remarkably neat.

For a safe option, St James's Gate Irish Pub on Rembrandtplein is a decent bet. We spent a good few hours there watching the play-offs and getting some food in. Not far from there, along Halvemaansteeg, is a cracking little Scottish place that's less pricey and plays some fantastic music. At one point the barmaid overheard me and a mate talking about Rapper's Delight by the Sugar Hill Gang and made sure that was the next somg they played. Excellent service!

Been twice before, In daytime would reccommend the Heineiken tour around 16ish euros which includes 3 drinks. Also afterwards you can get a free canal boat up to rembrant square with your wristbrand.
Other thing i would reccomend is anne franks which is very interesting , van gough is popular but the ques are massive and its about 14 euros.

Rembrandt square is the best place, loads of bars around there. Also theres further square with loads of bars further down the city near vondel park.

drinks can be pricey and food too , some restaurents charge 6 euros just for a coke.
