FAIL!

Aberdeen Shrimper, you've broken one of the fundamental rules of SZ - go to the bottom of the class right now!

What, using someone's first name? Didn't realise OPSEC existed on SZ....

Is it in case 'Ze Germans' are lurking...

Back on topic, theres a good phot showing the blood splats on the plane on the Ryanair.com, the low fares airline (said in ridiculous accent) website. Looks like an Australian cricketers bat when hes playing in the ashes......

I went on a jet engine claims seminar a few years ago and the vast majority was about bird strikes. The majority of the damage is not done by the impact, that has an immediate effect of damaging the rotors. The major effect (it gets a bit gory from here) is the effect of the bird going trhough the series in intake turbines / compressors and basically becoming liquidised. the ensuing muck then gets right into the engine and blocks up the small holes in the combustion chamber thus leading to , at best, a very expensive engine rebuild
