Aldershot explain floodlight failure

Evening Echo

The News
ALDERSHOT Town’s chief executive Peter Duffy has revealed there were problems with the club’s floodlights before the Boxing Day clash against Southend United had even kicked off.

It would surely be too much to hope for for a sporting gesture of giving us our goal lead back by scoring in their own net from kick off at the rearranged fixture wouldn't it? If there was any decency they would do!

So maybe Mr Duffy would like to answer the question why the match wasn't postponed?

what reasons would the Referee had to postpone the game ? at Kickoff there was no danger to either players or public and the pitch was perfectly playable.

Calling it off because there was a chance that the floodlights would fail, would be like calling it off because the met office says its going to snow.

Knowing there were problems and leaving it til half time before getting an electrician in is , however, a different matter

Total shambles this is where the Football League needs to act and punish clubs. If Aldershot knew there was a chance the floodlights wouldnt work then they are fully liable and the points should be awarded to Southend and Aldershot should be heavilly fined and copensation paid to Southend.

No doubt the Football League will adopt their usual policy of do nothing and put their heads in the cloud.

The Football League didn't punish a certain club a couple of seasons ago that treated their players & manager like sh!t and didn't bother to pay them (all allegedly of course)

You can always do what we did after the Accrington fiasco last season when we wrote to the FL and received exactly the same e-mail but credited to different people! And it was a pointless reply.

Its going to be very interesting when all Football League Clubs must meet upgrades on there floodlighting by 2014-15 season there are fears that clubs in League 1 & 2 may struggle to beat the deadline.

New lighting systems to the required standard costs between £250,000.00 and £300,000.00 less for upgrades, and clubs living on a shoestring are wondering where the money will come from as therer will be no grant aid form the Football League

The strength of the lights is measured by a series of 88 on-pitch readings taken with a light meter on a grid pattern. The Football League demands a test certificate and a chart be submitted every two years , brightness is measured by the lux value present for League 1 & 2 is 210-350 and must rise to 300-500 by the 2014-15 season

There is at this stage no standard punishment should clubs fail to upgrade there floodlight, but any clubs which fails to deliver a test certificate shall be guilty of misconduct. In addition to any penalties imposed any re-inspection costs will be bourne by the club
