After Scunthorpe

My father had the great honour of watching the game in the executive box friday night. Afterwards in the player's bar he managed to have a good talk with tilly on several issues. One of which was the slow start we made to the game. (you have o admit Scunthorpe were camped in our half before Freddy's goal) tilly said that it was down to nerves and nothing he could say was chaging thah the fact lal the players were nervous before the game. Obviosuly this didn't matter in the end winning 3-0 but as the season draws to a close will the nerves increase? will it affect us in a big way? will we do what we did last year and collapse at the last moment? i really hope not but the way tilly was speaking to my father it seems that the lads know they are so close and don't want to stumble.

yes and then after that Gutts and maher were outmuscled in the middle of the park and we did play well until after the third goal.

Hmm. Most of the players we have were here last year as well, so experienced the tension of a promotion battle. I would think that while they will be nervous at times, last year's experience (and collapse) will have taught them a lesson or two and it won't have such an effect.

I hope....

one minor addtion to the squad that could make the difference from last year...

the experience of a certain goat

And more importantly the experience they all gained from last season.

Hopefully with the added experience, plus Bradbury looking decent and being bought just at the right time, plus the form Eastwood is in they will get past the nerves.

Every game now is going to be a big affair from now on.

With our current lead we arent going to be in any better position to get back to the Championship and as long as we keep our bottle we will get there!

Remember this is just my view so slate me if you wish!

When your father was speaking to Tilly I assume it was a one on one conversation and as such can be regarded as private ...... yes? On that basis, don't you think that comments made my the manager of a football team about his players to a person not connected to the media should remain exactly that.......private. I'm sure the last thing Tilly wants his his players knowing he's telling others about them being nervous before a big game. If he'd wanted the world to know he would have said so in the post match interviews he gave.
I really think, with the current lofty situation we find ouselves in the last place private comments made by Tilly should be aired is a public forum such as this.

Just my thoughts ........ ho hum

*waits for the barrage of 'fek orf' comments or such like*

I'd say fek orf but at the end of the day, it's your opinion.

Personally, I don't think it's any major scandal and if it WAS anything Tilly wouldn't want to see shared, then he wouldn't have shared it himself.

So the players were nervous?
As someone else said earlier, nerves are not necessarily a bad thing. I'd rather the team were nervous than over-confident.
