We are unbeaten away at the "new" AFC Wimbledon in all competitions. Long may it continue.
After two consecutive matches with "first year referees", we now have an official in his second year as a League Referee. It is currently scheduled to be Nick Kinseley of Wickford who will be refereeing his first Southend competitive match. A surprising appointment in my opinion given his location. There was a time when having a Southend postcode would have ruled him out of this match.
In his early 40's, he learnt his trade in the Southend Sunday Junior and Basildon Sunday Leagues, 11 years on the line of the Football League and four on the Premier League line.
Do not expect anything like the standard of last Saturday's excellent official and general consensus of his couple of years on the list varies between okay and poor. He has attracted a bit of adverse criticism, especially in games which have been "challenging".
This season he's shown a high 106 yellows and 6 reds in 26 matches, THIRTEEN of the yellows coming in the Crawley v Newport game.
He has done two previous Wimbledon games - this season's goalless draw at Northampton and last season's home defeat by Exeter.
Assistants are Andrew Aylott from Kempston in Bedfordshire (which was noted for being the largest village in England until they made it a town) and Marc Wilson from Cambridge. Elliott Kaye from Hainault completes the team as Fourth Official.
Previous referees from Mr Kinseley's location include the notorious official - the Wickford Whistler (other alliterations are available) Alan Turvey who some older readers may recall putting in an hideous performance in the Brighton away game in the mid 70s, a match he was allowed to do as he'd moved to Basingstoke by then.
