TV Highlights AFC Fylde 2-1 Southend Utd

(a) We do shoot from outside area

(B). for their 1st goal Where was the defender (Gubbins?) who closed down the crosser when he went into the 6yd box to head in the knock back?

(a) let's be honest both shoots hardly stung their keepers hands.

(b) I agree he should have come back but he shouldn't have been out there in the first place that should be Ralph's job.

(A) Agree - but I think there's been comments on threads around lack of shots from outside of box and players being coached not to shoot - I think that's nonsense. We do shoot from outside the box but we're not particularly good at it.

(B) Yeah, looks like defense were abit disjointed there, Ralph has gone out to meet a player on edge of box (so who should've been marking this guy?), leaving the player outside on the right wing unmarked and then Gubbins goes to cover him.

Both goals were uncharacteristically bad defending/keeping, much like Sutton. Stating the obvious here, but we will never win games defending like that.

been careful not to be too critical of colin but what on earth is he doing for the first goal. If he stays upright on his line he probably saves it. In saying that two free headers inside what 6-8 yards with 3 CBs how does that happen? i thought it was bad last night, but oh dear thats a really poor goal to concede

Huge gap between the back line and the Midfield for a couple of their chances in the second half , Fylde players carrying the ball unchallenged into our final third

Mentioned in another thread that our midfield for the final goal should of been all over Horton who is their biggest goal threat

First goal will give Maher knightmares it was that bad

The winning goal was a decent accurate strike, we get similar chances but consistently the vast majority of our players are poor finishers. They are often what you would call half chances but we spurn the vast majority of them. These extra goals can make a massive difference to the seasons points tally.

Watch again - Gubbins went out to close the crosser down - didn’t get anywhere near him and had his back to the play. The crosser could see what was going on and sprinted into the six yard box whilst Gubbins had turned and was trailing yards behind him.

Watch Ralph and Morton just standing doing nothing letting play go on around them. Maybe one of them should have been aware of the danger.

We shoot from outside of the area but have no one who can strike a ball cleanly along the ground with venom. And we still don’t like to get in the way and block. Husin got out of the way and Appiah-Forson turned his back on the winner.

Yeah I think we're on the same page as to what gubbins was doing (or not doing) and yes none of the other defenders saw the danger either.

Note the speed with which Fylde broke time and again. They seemed fitter and faster than our lads.

In Nick Haughton they have a confident and effective striker with an excellent scoring record for Fylde. Look at his career stats though and you will see that he scored few goals for his many other clubs. He has played for Fylde for six years and has presumably stayed at the club because they recognise his value and have paid and treated him accordingly.

The thing is though is that Haughton is a midfield player -he doesn't play up front. his movement is excellent - both on and off the ball. He scored loads of goals in their two years in National League North and has carried that into the higher level this time. Gus had been getting loads of goals because he is always moving whereas far too many of our players only move when they get the ball. Paul Cark is always going on about it and the time it takes us to get crosses in. no one ever knows if it is on Bridge's 4th 5th or 6th turn - so no one ever gambles.

Most teams look fitter and faster than us - we're not very athletic but can pass the ball better.
