Adam Barrett at Left Back

Given all the doom and gloom before Friday regarding Hammell being injured and how Tilson should work harder at getting in a loanee, i'm interested in how people think Barrett coped?

Very well, Barrett has been in outstanding form lately and carried that into his new position. However i think a specialist left back would be better in the long run. I prefer Barrett in the centre.

If Hammy's gonna be back for Sunderland or Palace I really don't see the point in getting someone else in given how Barrett coped Friday night.

I was worried he wasn't going to be able to cope but I have to admit he did, very well indeed. How much of this was due to a totally naff QPR attack is open to debate and I suppose we'll never know the definitive truth until we see him that position against a quality, attack minded team.

Yes he played well but to be honest, QPR's right winger hardly tested Barrett all game. A decent winger against Barrett may be a totally different proposition.

Barret did excellent v QPR, but the argument was more over using a square peg in a round hole over a longer period of time.

It may be a different kettle of fish against a better side - i.e. Saturday when he will be up against Carlos Edwards, David Connolly, Anthony Stokes etc! :-/

So the concensus seems to be that he played well and surprised a few of the doom merchants, albeit against inferior oposition (how much did I enjoy calling QPR that?!)?

Are people now prepared to admit that maybe Tilly has a better idea of the ability of his players than we do?

Think it was all down to QPR being totally kack, to be honest. Wouldn't think he'd cope anything like as well against a better side with half decent players in the wide positions.

Totally agree... that was my first thought when I saw the championship on sunday...not too worried with Sodje up against Stokes but Barrett is going to need help, possibly if JCR tracks Connolly. They said on the sunday highlights that Connolly has been around a bit for championship sides .... is he getting on a bit?
