A really obscure question

Firestorm

Pedant
Ok, this may seem a strange request, but does anyone have any thoughts on getting a Ring cut off ones finger.........Do I go to a jeweller, the Hospital, the fire brigade ???
I have worn a particular ring ever since my 21st birthday (it was a present) and it has never been taken off.
I am now a little bigger than I was then and the ring is completely fixed, it has not caused a problem until now, I have been told that I have arthritis in the knuckle of that very finger and I reckon that the ring will have to come off.
I dont really want to butcher the ring as I would like to get it repaired afterwards.

Cue various tearing ring remarks from Canvey etc

if you go to casulty they will do a trick with some string/thread before just cutting it off...

what you need to do is get a long piece of string, and wind it tightly around your finger below your ring, quite a few times, then poke the string under and carry on winding it right up your finger. then from the bottom un wind it so that it pushes the ring slowly forward with each 'unwind'... my dad showed me how to do it and it does work! if not then it is probably worth going to a jewellers to get it done

It will not go over the knuckle , I haven't been able to remove it for years but I have had no need to so I wasn't bothered.

That sounds really good, Unfotunately I think i am beyond even that....

I am at the hospital tonight for an xray I will have a word with them.

oh and before you do it hold your hand above your head for a while to help try and drain some fluid out

yeah that is your best bet... they could probably whip it off over at a&e in 10seconds

soak your hand in ice water so your fingers shrink, that's what I always do

I went to a jeweller for the same thing. It took a couple of minutes.

i think they're gonna have to cut your finger off im afraid!

To be on the safe side i think the whole hand needs to go, if the old boy has arthritis then its probably next to useless anyway.. perhaps he could take up refereeing ala that useless muppet we had the other night

I gave up refereeing a few years ago , when my eyesight unexplainably improved

He was very cautious, especially as it was very tight at first

as long as he was careful when putting the end of his tool between your ring and flesh... that's the most painful bit. once it is in then with a firm grip he can bust your ring with minimal pain!

It scratched a bit as he pulled the edges apart so he could side it over easier, but once he had widened it enough it was dead easy.

It was surprisingly tough considering it was an old ring, it does not seem to have worn away much
