A Plea to Uncle Ron

Stodge

First XI
As at Doncaster and Stamford Bridge, you received a warm reception from the Southend supporters last night as you walked around the pitch before the match.

You now have the opportunity to repay these supporters with something more than a hand clap. As you said on 5-live yesterday, the income from the two Chelsea matches is additional to your budget. I call on you to give this money straight to the management team to enable them to make a significant signing this month.

Over the last couple of years, exciting skillful players have left (Gower, Eastwood, JCR etc) and have not been replaced by players of the same calibre. The FA Cup run was a welcome distraction, but it is clear that this is the most difficult season since Tilly took over. By supporting him in the transfer market now, added to the momentum and optimism gained from the Cup run, there is still a chance to turn this season around.

he love the appluase at chelsea and last night but its time now for him to put his money where his mouth is. if we don't get at least 3 players i will be very dissappointed.

Yep, 3 players of genuine quality. Good battling performance last night but you could tell we raised our game. Players like Grant, Barrett and Moussa have been poor for most of the season. Once Stanislas goes back to West Ham there is very little creativity. Sawyer would be a good signing to complement Jeff. A centre back and a wide player also. Possibly a striker too as I dont think any of ours have scored for about 3 months.

I feel it is obvious we clearly need another striker. Revell not good enough and barnard and freedman cant be trusted to be fit, laurent will become a very good player but a striker would be a must imo. Must say last night made me proud to be a shrimper.

my thoughts after the game was a brilliant performance by Blues and the fans. Just one of those memorable nights. TBH we knew we were likely to get beaten but what the hell. Chelsea fans were pathetic and I have to say the Chelsea team full of world class players were disappointing. Would I get a season ticket to watch them week in week out. Well no which is a long winded way to get to my point.
Chelsea epitomise all that is wrong with football. Over paid prima donna players bankrolled by a tycoon. It'll all end in tears.
My main plea to Ron is run this club in a financially sensible way, not over stretching the budget and leave a legacy for the future. If that means spending then so be it BUT if it means saving for a rainy day which believe me will come (Gordon Brown anyone?) then keep the money in the bank.

I think perhaps 2003-04 was Tilly's most difficult, taking over a side who's self-belief was rock bottom and were heading for the Conference.

I for one am reasonably satisfied with the squad. Bring in a centre back on loan, and a winger and it'll do me.

What people have to realise is that this season is practically over, just checking the table we're 13 off the playoffs 23 games in (half way through). The top team are only 11 above 6th so we'd have to be the best team in the league in the second half, on my calculation, to get into the playoffs this season.

I completely agree that money still clearly needs investing in this squad if we are to get promoted again... how many exciting/creative players do we now own at the club?! Perhaps Laurent??? We need exciting wingers prepared to take on a fullback, or a central midfielder who will literally run the show, and a striker who can score a goal out of nothing. I'm sure T&B along with Ron already know this. We basically admitted before playing Chelsea the only way we would score was via a set piece. When we had players like Gower/JCR/Eastwood they were always capable of doing something out of the ordinary...

The problem is its not easy to replace these players!!! Being realistic it looks like the playoffs has now become a huge ask - so rather than pay over inflated prices I would be more than happy to see T&B try and bring in such players in the Summer when they are confident we have found the right targets! We don't know the current state of the club finances, I doubt it would be sensible for all the funds gained from the cup run to be made available, but I'm sure Ron will make all the funds he can available to Tilly. I believe him when he said he has never stopped Tilly making a new signing...

Ron will do the right thing :)

Spot on Shrimply. Players like Eastwood, JCR etc don't come along everyday. I think Laurent may be our best bet currently, but time will tell.

Every day T,B & R are still at the club, is another great day for SUFC!
