Southend United Football Club

Official Club Account
Southend United will be holding a Pie and a Pint night with Blues legend Roy McDonough in September.

The former Roots Hall favourite will be in the Shrimpers Bar on Friday, 7th September at 8:00pm for a night hosted by David Crown to take questions from Southend fans and recall some of his memories in football.

The night is being put on to mark the launch of his new book ‘Red Card Roy’ which will be available on the evening to purchase.

Roy made 208 appearances during two spells for the Club between 1983/84 and then between 1985 and 1990 scoring 34 goals but he is best remembered for his reputation as one of football’s “hard men”.

As a result he is the record holder for the most dismissals in a career, 22, and for red cards in the Football League, 13.

The evening will cost just £10 for entrance with a free pint and pie included in the price of admission.

Tickets are available by calling the Commercial Department on 01702 304147.

If you can’t make the night and want to get hold of a copy of Roy’s book then don’t worry as he will be attending our match with Dagenham and Redbridge the following day and will be in the Ticket Office on in the morning signing copies.

And for anyone wanting to get closer to Roy at the match he will be our Legends Guest in one of our Executive Suites.

For £45+vat per person, supporters can enjoy a pre-match buffet with complimentary wine and beer along with half-time refreshments and a car parking space with matchday programme.

For more information call the Commercial Department on 01702 304147.

Are you allowed to take the programme out of the car parking space? That's fine if the weather is good, but if it's raining it's going to get all soggy.

Just been told England are in Moldova that night for a World Cup Qualifier

This is awful planning SUFC ... RE-SCHEDULE !!!!!!!

Roy and David Crown together .... enough to make any true Sufc stalwart salivate over the keyboard ..... you can watch the England match later ......

As for Roy being a "hard man", I've been told he is as soft as a kitten when he doesn't have his boots on ......:smiles:

One other bit of information about this night, JOHN MOTSON will also be attending. He loves the book and asked to be involved so he could come and say a few words about Roy.

As for the England match - who cares?

John Motson attending Roy McDonough pie and pint night

Just a quickie to let you all know that legendary broadcaster John Motson (sure he donned the famous sheepskin for the snowy Liverpool match in the 80s) will be in attendance at the Roy McDonough pie and pint night at Roots Hall on Friday, September 7.

Motty was such a big fan of Roy's book Red Card Roy when he received a review copy that he asked to attend the launch so he could meet Roy and say a few words to get the evening under way.

Motty, Donut and Crowny - much more attractive than England v Moldova!

Good old Motty ... i'm gonna tape the football and have a pint with Donut

What are the chances that Moldova will kick off about 5 anyway ??

We'll probably get rolled over in Moldova anyway.
Roy is still quite sharp on the pitch and funny as ****. The book however is not my cup of tea.

Great night with Roy McDonough is on the cards at Southend United

FAMOUS football commentator John Motson will be rubbing shoulders with Southend United legend Roy McDonough next month.
