[h=3]A message from Saturday's opponents, ahead of the game at the Globe Arena.[/h]To all Southend supporters making the trip this coming Saturday:
As you might imagine plans are at an advanced stage and we are looking forward to welcoming in excess of 2400 fans, officials, staff and players to our Club, for what we hope will be a fantastic celebration of football.
A couple of housekeeping points that will hopefully help your day run more smoothly. For those travelling by train you should aim to end your journey at Morecambe Station rather than Lancaster. You are then only a 15 minute walk or 5 minute taxi ride from the ground. Those travelling by car; please leave sufficient time taking into account the possibility of Bank Holiday Traffic making its way to the North-West seaside resorts and Lake District. Once in Morecambe you can park safely, 250 yds from the Globe Arena at Westgate School (LA4 4XF) with the £4 fee going directly to the school.
There are numerous hostelries within walking distance of the ground but we would ask that you make your way to the ground in good time to make sure that everyone is in for the 3pm kick off. Both MFC & SUFC Stewards will be on hand to direct you to the away turnstiles which for reference are numbered 3-10. We have concessions in all ‘away’ areas of the ground serving our award winning pies, what more incentive does a football fan need!
The dialogue between our two Clubs has always been amiable and the banter of the ‘Shrimps v Shrimpers’ a copy writers dream. Your Club has this week pulled out all the stops, firstly in securing the capacity, lots of favours now owed, secondly the logistics of making sure everyone wanting to travel has the requisite ticket for the designated away sections of the ground.
Whatever the result this Saturday it is in both Clubs interests that concessions made, in respect of the extra capacity given, are respected when it comes to the final whistle. As when we hosted Burton on the 18th April, plans are in place for YOUR team to celebrate promotion or play-offs following the final whistle.
As a Club Morecambe would also like to be given the opportunity to celebrate what has been an arduous 46 match League programme, with the time honoured players lap of honour. Not that the day needed any further distraction but some of you might by now also be aware that Stewart Drummond, one of our stalwart professionals, is bringing the curtain down on his 21-year senior career before taking up his new full-time post as Head of Youth Development. It would be a great gesture if you would join our fans in showing your ‘footballing’ appreciation at the appropriate time.
We are ready for what could turn into an extremely nervous time for you between 4.30 – 5pm. In order for our ‘joint celebrations’ to happen, we respectfully request that all Southend United fans observe the rules around pitch incursions at any time whilst here at Morecambe Football Club.
Announcements will be made throughout the day over the grounds PA system about the day’s safety operations and specifically what will be happening after the final whistle.
Finally we would like to congratulate Southend United on their season to date. Please travel safely and enjoy your day out with us in a responsible manner. Oh…….and may the best team on the day succeed but please let football be the ultimate victor.
