A few interesting stats

I have just picked out a few stats looking at our last 10 games and they say a lot I think (all stats exclude FA cup) -

* We have won one game
* Scored 8 goals (0.8 g/g)
* Conceded 19 goals (1.9 g/g)
* Collected 6 points (20% of available points)
* Continuing that form throughout the rest of the season would leave us with 43 points.

Discuss!

Some more stats those last ten games have been against 7th, 2nd, 15th, 12th, 8th, 1st, 23rd, 5th, 10th and 11th.

That isn't a typical fixture list. Half of those games were against top 8 sides and only two of those games were against bottom half teams. We average two points per game against bottom half teams and we'll have more bottom half teams to play than top half teams as a result of this run of fixtures.

Everyone says the team looked really good when we had all the loanees here, but the team looked good because the teams we were playing were bad as we faced teams like Yeovil, Swindon, Crewe, Hereford and Orient all pretty much in a row.

Very good YB & on that basis we could still be in the Championship.

Remember the relegation season when of out last 10 games 14 (i might be slightly exaggerating there!) were against teams in the bottom 5, none of whom had scored in 20 games (or something like that) & with all but 2 at home. So what did we do? Lose at home pathetically to teams like Luton (who'd sold all their players & put out the under 5's).

Your theory is well worked but in the case of SUFC utterly pointless.

We've one once in approaching 3 months.

We haven't won away since the 4th October.

Since that win at Yeovil our last away results read: 1-3, 0-2, 0-3, 0-3, 0-0, 2-2, 2-4, 1-1.

Ever since Tilly tried to give Colchester 3 points on Nov 1st with an incredibly naive managerial performance we've been total and utter tripe and I'm starting to get slightly more nervous as the weeks go by. We need transfer activity this week there can be no doubt. As it stands we have 13 players definitely available for Tuesday night including 2 keepers and 2 kids in Herd and O'Keefe. Walker and Scannell appear to have been banished to the corner of the class with Foran possibly never to appear again and with us never to be informed why. Our main goalscoring hope will need a mobility scooter within a few months with his injury record. We're quite frankly in the mire.

The difference is that in the Championship we weren't better than the teams we were expecting to beat - which is why we were below them in the first place - and our record did nothing to suggest that we did well against the strugglers. In contrast I'm talking about beating clubs we are not just above in the league, but have already taken points off. I think there is also a difference between playing in the middle of the season and playing during the run-in where pressure effects teams differently.

We have struggled in December/January for the same reason we were successful in September/October: the difficulty (or otherwise) of the fixture list.

Where this team is, is somewhere in between, also known as mid-table obscurity. People disagreed with me when I suggested that back in November saying we were better, they now seem to be disagreeing with me by saying we are worse than that.

All these statistics are good, but statistically we always play better second half of the season and finish strongly.

Big statement that so let's have some of your "statistical" back up for it. Not saying your wrong, but I'd like to see your proof. If only to give me heart that we're not in trouble.

Last season... best run of results second half

04 - 05 Playoff Champions

Best form from January onwards, little slip last few league games. Bentley scoring goals for fun. Owned the playoffs.

Ah. I thought you were going to provide damning statistics over an 80 year period! So by always, you mean in the last couple of years. Silly me!
