So we lost to Swindon in the JPT tonight. OK, a trip to Wembley would have been nice but promotion to L1 is a much better thought and if we can beat Oldham, a trip to Anfiled is as good, if not better than a trip to Wembley.

The feeling I wasn't used to was losing! It was really strange and took a while to comprehend, not something you would associate with fans of SUFC. In the past, you accept it because you are used to it, but it just didn't feel right tonight.

I hope I don't have to face that feeling again for quite a while

totally with you on this. Had forgotton how bad it feels right in the pit of your stomach. especially seeing the way their no 10 reacted to the goals and the win.

This one hurts a lot to me and I dare say I will be having flashbacks of there first goal in a few hours time when trying to sleep.
A trip to Wembley with the Blue's has been a life time dream and at 1-0 up it seemed almost in sight.
So it was the circumstances and also it has been a few months since witnessing a defeat that makes it hurt that much more.

When I saw the title of the thread, and the person who started it, I thought it was going to be about being popular.

In which case I would have had no contribution to add.

I have to say this is one of the hardest defeats to take since we got relegated. We could be 180 minutes against an awful Barnet team away from 20,000 maybe more of our fans turning out at Wembley to see us try and win a competition. This was by far the biggest individual game of our season so far. Yes the league is important, but lose at Cheltenham and we've got another 20-something games to make amends.

Horrible horrible feeling losing tonight.

Have we ever had a better chance of reaching Wembley ?? .. when i heard Barnet won i nearly crashed the car, it was like i'd been punched in the nads

All the talk has been Wembley or Anfield .. its going to be neither isn't it

Exactly. Not been hurt by a defeat so much in years. I really cannot understand how people aren't too fussed and see Saturday as a bigger game.

I'd have remembered a Wembley final for the rest of my life. I'll barely remember Cheltenham away on Saturday by the end of next week.

Gutted.

This is southend united. Did you honestly think there wouldnt be any proverbial kicks in the jacobs this season?

C'mon this has been a bad day and if we are honest we didnt deserve to win. We have been in a similar position quite a few times were we have been a goal up and seen it out , unfortunately tonight we didnt have the legs the players or the tactics to manage it against a useful swindon side who i believe will be in the top 3 come may.

Wembley isnt going anywhere and we will have our day out there, but come the end of the season if we are celebrating promotion to league 1 then this conversation will be pointless.

This time next week we could be celebrating a great win that keeps us top and planning a trip to anfield.

All is not lost and it could be worse we could be in daggers position

Well said my man, makes me feel alot better

Heads up everyone, any defeat is hard to take but perhaps it could be a blessing in disguise, IMO the unbeaten run has been like the proverbial "monkey on the back" for the last few games, and how we bounce back on Saturday will shape the rest of our season, and as already stated getting out of this god awful league is more important than a day out at Wembly.

Its not just a day out a Wembley is it, its a chance to win some silverware that would go down in the history of the club.

My best moment ever was after the 2nd leg of the Colchester game in the LDV, that feeling beats any promotion any day of the week.

I'm ****ed off and I wasn't even there. I was getting excited about seeing my team at Wembley Stadium with the chance of lifting a trophy. Tin pot? The JPT is the biggest cup trophy we will ever win - maybe small fry for a team like Southampton who've graced FA Cup finals, but that is NEVER going to happen with Southend.

If I ****ed off, imagine how the players are feeling this morning? I have a horrible feeling that if we'd have lost a league game it wouldn't have mattered so much, but to lose this, especially with Barnet in the area final, Luggy is going to have to work some magic to inspire them.

I can see this loss as a catalyst for a dip in form.

It will be the catalyst for a dip in form. Long unbeaten runs seem to invariably precede long winless runs, as the confidence is shattered that has been built up following what has been a good run - but how well have we actually played? Can't see anything other than a thrashing at Cheltenham at the weekend and the inevitable disappointment of losing to Oldham to prevent a Cup game against Liverpool reserves.

Sorry DWB, but this does not make me feel any better. Not one bit.

I'm a tad annoyed that we did not appear to take it a little more seriously.

No disrespect, but Barnet in a 2 legged battle for a Wembley show down, is about as easy as you could hope for. We would of taken thousands to Barnet and the home game would of been pushing 9-10,000 I would of thought. Plenty of £££'s for the club. And that's not even counting the final itself, which would probably pull around 40-50,000 fans in. Huge amount of £££'s down the drain there as well. Swindon should sail through to Wembley now, with ease.

Massive, massive opportunity wasted and I'm not sure we'll ever get such an opportunity again. For a long, long time.

But yes, IF we go up and IF we get to Anfield it will all be forgotten. But, that's the problem isn't it....IF...

The cracks have started to show now for several weeks. And perhaps our "luck" is now starting to turn. We need to strengthen in January. Especially up front and wide...

Using the same 13 or 14 players every week is now starting to take its toll. Let's hope the lads have enough about them to do the job, until fresh faces can come in.
