After reading on this site since the start of the season, I know that I am not the only one to be annoyed witht the way some people have just jumped on the players backs, when we are in the Championship for god sake, so here are my thoughts on the season so far, what do you all think?

Positives

1. Home Record: played 2, won 2

To survive this year, we need to make Roots Hall a fortress, and so far a 100% record looks very nice!  Have looked good at home, and if we can keep that up, we will do well.

2. We are not in the relegation zone:

Yes some results have been disappointing, but we have not slipped into the bottom three, and lets all face it, if we finish in the position we are now, we will all be very happy.

3. New signings:

Steven Hammell - As has been mentioned on here today, what a star, looks very good at left back, really helps his winger out, great user of the ball, looks very solid, and has settled in very well.

Simon Francis - Has had a few "moment", but on the whole has looked good, was exceptional at Palace, and if he can get himself to that standard every week, then we will have 2 full backs who are going to cause problems.

Steve Collis - Looked good when called upon.

4. Mark Gower:

Has been said on here, so I wont go into it, new man, shame about teh injury!

5. We are doing better than Col******r:

Enough said!!

Negatives

1. We have not got anything out of a game in which we have gone behind:

This is my major concern.  How ever much we have thrown the kitchen sink at the opposition, we cant score when behind, need to be mproved.

2. Set plays:

Real shame to see us conceeding a lot from corners again, need to iron out that crease, but that should come as we all settle down as a team again.

3. The fans:

I am sorry to say this, but our side is now in the Championship, and too many fans are getting on our players backs far too easier, this is going to be a very hard year, we need to get behind the players!! Most people on here have been fine, hence why I am putting this.

All in all we have started OK, we just need to grab a point away from home, to help away nerves, and there is no reason why we cant have a really good season, with a nice couple of cup runs and a mid-table finish!!

Keep up the good work Tilly and Brush!!

C'mon Southend!!

Alright...in no particular order

Positives

We havent looked out of depth in this league, games we've lost we've lost narrowly.

Hammell is class, havent seen enough of Paynter to make a decision, Clarke looks solid, good signings alround

Gower as remarked is like a new player.

We've still got Freddy, and only a few more days to hold onto him

Take the team we have now and and the potential of a fully fit Sodje, Ricketts, etc

Negatives

I'd like for us to get another midfielder, we're a bit light in that department, especially when we go behind in a match we dont seem to have anyone to come on and change a match.

I'm surprised we havent sold out any matches yet, hardly a criticism, just and observation.

Our away form is probably going to do for us this season

Fickle fans, toss a coin to see what some of them are thinking

so far so good i think we will be ok in this league, aslong as we keep the home form up and nick some pionts away from home

I'm quite content so far but it's very early days - in my opinion the likes of Cardiff City and Norwich City are not going to be in the leading pack come May for example - and we'll have a better idea in about eight weeks time ...

yeah the season is early days yet, but the key to staying up in this league is home form. and also we have freddy scoring the goals

Or not as the case may be! I said before the season started that with the step up in calibre of the defenders he is going to face he would find it a lot harder to score at this level. Which we have seen to be true. Although I accept he has been unwell of late.

Although I agree with you that positions will not be the same after 46 games, as they are currently after 5, I do think Norwich will remain up there if Earnshaw remains fit and on form...

Freddy will also come good, he just needs time. Just look at our first five games of the previous two seasons and this I believe has been better than both of them!!

Yep, I've changed the pst to reflect the fact that it's my opinion!

Positives...
Gower. has made the step up much better than I had hoped considering he likes his fags!
Guttridge - Likewise. Has played out of his skin on all but one game. Absolutely class act at times.
We are still trying to keep the ball on the floor even when behind. Just watch darryl try and release the ball short nowadays so we can build up from the back on the floor. Hasn't happened for years
Col U excluded, all the away days have been/will be class.

Negatives...
People coming on here telling everyone who should be dropped.
The pink haart on the back of the home shirts.
Tilly sounds even more out of his depth in interviews.
Erm...that's about it really...

We're in The Championship. Let's enjoy it.

there isn't really much to worry about. ok we might not have picked up a point away from home but we are 5 games in so don't panic yet. and besides but thankful we aren't in the bottom three like Col******r.

With away supporters getting the whole of the North Bank about 2,800 tickets if you include the NW corner. This season we will only get a 'capacity' crowd (approx 11,300 to 11,600 depending on how many free tickets are given out) when we sell all our home tickets (8,500) and the away team brings 3,000.

The only other option is to give away fans 1,200 tickets which 'frees' up the NW corner & part of the North Bank for our fans (as per last season). But I can't see the demand from 10,100 of our fans at the moment.
