The Business
Easter Saturday as we werent playing I decided to go to see my mate from works team Hornchurch vs Redbridge. The game itself was quite decent at the Urhcins go a deserved 2-0 win.
Anyway in the ba afterwards were some of my personal ex-southend heros. Saw Dave Martin and had a chat. Came across as a really nice bloke..loved his football and talked really fondly of his tme with Blues. Said he will never forgive Jobson for messing up promotion as he felt that we would have gone up. Jobson promised bonuses to players and Webby that were never paid. He also said the key to our sucess then was all the players were good mates. Also said we would love to come back to Souhend as would Jim Stannard who was also there. He& Tilly also talk...
Next saw one of my fav ex blues Clarky. He used to play for Hornchurch. Did attempt a conversation which would have no doubt deteriorated to hero worship on my part but sadly Clarks abilty to talk is very similar to his ability to tackle and hence the best I got was a few words.
Also spoke to Mickey Desborough who is H's Keeper. Seemed a nice bloke who talked a good game. He knew another of my favs Scotty Forbes from Bishop Stortford days. Said he really liked him but not many others at the club did. Sad all were shocked by his ability (Or lack of) and had expected more from a league player. General feeling was can run all day but that was about it. Forbesy also plays in a band at weekends.
Then came the biggest legend of them all. Just walked out the crapper and who should I see but Southend/Dagenham Kev...Managed to avoid all contact with him during the England game but I did hear hear teling everyon how great te Daggers were whilst waing his SUFC hat....LEGEND....???
