If I understand the position correctly, there will be many players across the country out of contract as at midnight 30th June.

The lucky ones will sign with other clubs fairly soon leaving many to seek new employment between now and the start of the season (only 5 weeks away).

So we could start to see a lot of player moves activity.

For us (Southend United) it would seem that Sean Clohessy and Michael Timlin are no longer employees.

Glad you said that and not me!

Sad truth by the looks of it. Who the hell in their right mind was put pen to paper for a club who regularly late in paying them? There's non-league clubs who have the decency to pay their players on time.

John White must have suffered a temporarily lapse of judgement.

As I said in the other thread, there are lots of players out there wanting clubs, and not very many clubs to go to. For some irregular payments would be better than no payments whatsoever.

Hmm, the decent players will opt for a club who pays them on time. Which leaves the dross for us to pick up.

It will of course affect players with lots of options, but for those players even if we were paying salaries on time there would be plenty of reasons not to choose us. Salaries/geography etc.

With respect Paul, we are in the lower leagues. Who are you expecting us to sign? Lets at least try and be a bit positive.

BBBC, John White?
You are basing your opinion on the stuff suggested on here. You have no idea at all about what players are told (possibly not made public) about future prospects for the club, players that are targeted, FF etc etc.

So, players would have one opinion if they based a decision on posts here at SZ - and perhaps quite another view after talking to the manager and chairman.

SZ does not know everything. It is a decent guess that John White, BBBC (and anybody elsewho signs) base their opinion on how the club sells itself to them. Not by reading opinions that are largely guessed at - on SZ.

ps. If players based their opinion regarding signing for Southend United on rumour and opinions from SZ - we would never, ever sign another player again!

People have been saying this since Sturrock's first pre-season.

Yes there will be players who choose another club over us due to our reputation, but we have hardly signed dross instead over the past three years.

It doesn't need the truth from SZ, I am sure the footballers' agents have heard all about SUFC and the late payments of wages.

Will be disappointed if Timlin doesn't re-sign. He's been a silly boy and if we're willing to stick by him, help with his rehabilitation and offer him further employment on his release, then he should be looking to repay the faith, as many other clubs wouldn't be as forgiving.

Having said that, Ryan Hall was loyal for one season before he decided that he didn't fancy playing first team football anymore so I suppose it's difficult to say what will happen.

Players moving down the pyramid who are confident of getting another club won't be facing decision day for another month as the PFA mandate that clubs pay one month's extra pay to anyone who doesn't have a new club by 31st July.

Either way there will be a hell of a lot more players unemployed than their will be vacancies in 92 squads up and down the country.

The club certainly will try to sell the dream, and it will count for something, it will count for more if they actually start building it this year as that same dream would have been sold to players for the last few years and most of which left long before ever seeing it.

If after 10th July we can actually start building then the clubs stock will rise. Sadly the fact that it will have only 3 sides will have an adverse affect, imagine how much more of an attractive option we would be if we were in the process of building a full stadium.

Or nothing at all if they sign for the mighty SUFC.

Someone got out of bed the wrong side today.
