Just looking through my old diaries and discovered it was 13 years ago 2nite we went to Swansea and got a result in the LDV trophy. That was probably the catalyst for that successful run that saw us get back to back promotions and beat Man U in the process. Just wondering how many of the 27 that went 2 Swansea that night are about, bearing in mind many are probably at Millwall 2nite

Yep I was there and going tonight.
Amazing 27 there that night and a few months later the next game in Wales 20,000+

Yes, with the date. No to everything else.

That season we fared poorly to average throughout finishing 17th sandwiched between Kidderminster and Darlington.

The next visit to Wales was just 5 weeks later when we pulled off that remarkable win with only 8 players on at the end in front of less than 6,000 !

Given that our next League game after the LDV one was a 4-0 defeat by Yeovil, I think it's difficult to attribute any of our subsequent success to that one single LDV game. It played a part on the route to Cardiff for sure.

I remember some idiot on here started a Tilson Out thread after that defeat, Tilson had only been in charge for a few games then, would be funny to dig that thread up so who did start it

Was it 37 ( old age, may have been 27? ) as Terry Jeffery actually counted them, twice. :) Mind you the lot from Wyndham Plastics were in an exec box shouting about alot. Classic night and did even better a few weeks on with 8 men. :):Worthy:

These games are what make the aways even more special, they are " I was there" matches, stuff of folk law and legend.

Cannot believe that anything remotely connected to such a pointless game in such a pointless trophy has a major bearing on anything.
LDV, Johnstone's, Prem Academy...call it what you like - it means zero!
When we went to Cardiff in the LDV and Wembley in the Johnstone's thing - nobody else in the world of football could care less if they tried. I spoke to my mates who did not support Southend United and A) they were not aware the final's were taking place. B) They were almost embarassed in trying to even comment on such meaningless matches.

You may have guessed - I think the trophy is absolutely worthless (ok a few £ in the final) and offers zero kudos for the winners.

Success in the FLT has been the catalyst for future success for a number of teams.

It brings extra cash, a winning mentality and extra supporters.

Tilly was only appointed us in November 2003, I think the Swansea game was possibly Dave Webbs last game
