On 19 May 1906, a meeting was held at the Blue Boar and the team we all love, Southend United FC, was born.
In 100 days time Southend United will be due it's telegram from The Queen to celebrate 100 years since it's birth. However, with 100 days to go it would seem to Joe Public that - with the exception of the confirmed First Day Cover organised by SUSCT - that nothing is happening to celebrate our 100th year. No special match, no special kit - nothing, nada, not a sausage.
Before the beginning of the current season, a match was held against Norwich to celebrate the 50th anniversary of our return to our home at Roots Hall, a true people's stadium. However, despite being promised a special kit, the club were unable to oblige due to "a lack of time". I sincerely hope, this is not going to be the case with our 100th anniversary, sadly though, nothing would suprise me.
