100 Days to the Centenary

General Easterly

Guest
On 19 May 1906, a meeting was held at the Blue Boar and the team we all love, Southend United FC, was born.

In 100 days time Southend United will be due it's telegram from The Queen to celebrate 100 years since it's birth. However, with 100 days to go it would seem to Joe Public that - with the exception of the confirmed First Day Cover organised by SUSCT - that nothing is happening to celebrate our 100th year. No special match, no special kit - nothing, nada, not a sausage.

Before the beginning of the current season, a match was held against Norwich to celebrate the 50th anniversary of our return to our home at Roots Hall, a true people's stadium. However, despite being promised a special kit, the club were unable to oblige due to "a lack of time". I sincerely hope, this is not going to be the case with our 100th anniversary, sadly though, nothing would suprise me.

Will both next season's kits being special centenary editions? I would hope the club will have these available in May and not just for the start of the season.  Plenty of clubs wear next seasons kit for the last game of the season each year so why can't we?

Something to sort out SUFC!!!

Totally agree.

And also, if it is launched in May, then you can wear it on holiday...

Which kit maker its going to be? I thought the deal with Nike run out end of this season, so I hope we have many years with Nike, its seem to be an lucky charms for Southend.

Hopefully Beaver...

I want Basic Instinct 2 to be screened live at RH as a testimony to our greatest player of the centenary

Is anyone else fed up with the glory hunters trying to jump all over the centenary now we are having a bit of success on the pitch?

Where were they 100 years ago when the club really needed their support?

Plus it is so much more comfortable than the oter makes that we had previous to Nike.

I signed a new contract about two weeks ago - part of which stops me from discussing anything to do with kits and stuff. All i can say is that i wouldnt worry too much about this issue, they are things going on 'behind the scenes' and everything is underwraps.
Underwraps means you wont know whats happening until the Occasion arrives, but i can assure you that all is going good, and lots of research is going in to ensure it is a good celebration.

Guys, also please don't PM me regarding Kits or anything along the lines. As i mentioned above my new contract stops me from discussing issues like that, so i will not be able to give you an answer

I can answer this... we still have a deal with Nike

Cheer for that Steve, I alway liked Nike for sportwear & trainer - not that Iam a 'Rat Boy' type.

Yeah, I didn't think it was a bite good and proper, otherwise I wouldn't have answered it.

What about betterview? Or will there be a new sponsor?

I have heard that our kit will not be particularly special apart from around the badge.

Ron Martin won't budge from navy blue because he incorrectly thinks its traditional and Nike will not do anything special for us, only teamwear kits.

We wanted to have names, possibly of Season Ticket Holders (like Tranmere) on one of the shirts, but Nike won't have it - we're not a big enough Club, basically!

Makes me think, surely there are many other kit suppliers out there. For example Col U's kit is made by Admiral, and they are a decent manifacturer who, I'm sure, will give you what you want.

As for who the Clubs wants as the 'special game' I don't know. I think it should be Swindon Town, but knowing SUFC they'll give in ti the attraction of West Ham United, which has been a strong rumour.
