Anyone like to hazard a guess as to where we'll finish ?

Not an easy one as 8 of our 10 games have been against sides in the bottom 10. At least we know we can beat the bottom three sides in the country, and Torquay, who are now trying hard to reclaim their usual position down there.

I think we lack that quality to finish anywhere other than mid-table this season.

I will go for around 13th.

The good thing is, I think we have enough about us to stay up, which was my main concern over the summer. So I'll take mid-table.

Based upon the current side about mid table. There seems to be a lot of **** down here. With a decent striker maybe higher. Not worried about playing higher placed sides as the might be more inclinded to play football.

Said before the season began that we can go up - at the time was of course blind optimism of the manager and players he had brought in but before a ball was kicked in anger.

Not seen too much else to dissuade me at the moment. We look a solid Lg2 outfit and are only going to get better. Considering we are only a few points of the play-offs, I think thats a massive achievement that is getting lost a bit in some of the performances.

I still think we'll make at least the play-offs. Mohsni will get better, we'll make some signings (coming and going) in Jan and hopefully find that decent partner for Corr.

I'm predicting a very good second half of the season once the players start to gel properly.

If we are within 2 points of 5th place now and we actually haven't begun to play yet, I'm confident we'll make at least the play offs and possibly automatics.

I think we will be there, or thereabouts, come May, as I think the longer the season goes on, the better we will become. I also think Sturrock will not be afraid of making changes in January if he thinks the players he has at his disposal are not doing it.

Given the turmoil and the huge turnover of players in the close season, I think he has done extremely well to gel the team together as well as they have done, and as I say, the longer they play together, the better they will become.

I think this month will be a good yard stick for us - on paper, I think we have a tough month ahead with the likes of Bury, Rotherham and Chesterfield, not to mention an unpredictable Crewe. If we come through that relatively unscathed, I suspect that will give us the confidence and self belief to go on to bigger and better things.

Our squad is starting to look pretty impressive, with strength in pretty much all areas of the side, and if Mr Corr can continue his current scoring record, he ought to be around the 20 goal mark come May, and with others capable of assisting him, I truly believe we have a decent squeak of extending our season.

I love your optimism, mate! I was only thinking this morning about how well this team have done considering they hardly know each other. In the context of the sickening anxiety I felt about the future of the club over the summer, it's been a hugely impressive showing so far - though I must admit I've only seen one game so I don't really have the insights you regulars do. If we do make the play-offs, then the team and management should feel incredibly proud of themselves after such inauspicious beginnings.

Watch out - someone I know will have your hand off for a bet!

As we have played 8 out of our ten games against the bottom 10 and 2 against the top 13 there is no doubt that people are beng just a tad optimistic here.

Let's have a look at the end of October.

I've disagreed with fbm on many issues in the past, but not this one. Blues to finish third.

Good call. Although at this stage in the season, it's partly down to the fact they lost to us that 8 of them are in the bottom 10 (i.e. if we hadn't beaten them they wouldn't be there and we'd not be above them). So it's sort of a circular argument.

Glad someone has pointed this out.

It's also obviously too early to read anything into the fact that we're averaging a healthy 1.5 points a game against top 10 teams!

League Two is the easiest division to be involved in a promotion push, notwithstanding the standard in the division, as you only have to be within touch of 7th (as opposed to 6th in most other divisions). We might not finish in the top 7 at the end of the season, but I'd like to think we'll still be in the conversation at the start of March.

I think we will be in the top 5. I agree its a little too early to tell and we have played mainly weaker teams. However, often teams tend to raise their game when playing better teams. We did this when we played Torquay. I'm optimistic that we will do the same when playing our next few league games. If we do well, I think we will have everything to go for!!!

Me too. With only 7 points separating the play off positions from the relegation zone, the fact that these teams lost to us is part of the reason they're where they are.
