    Your Non-football sporting hero?

We were discussing at work our sporting heroes and it was pretty much all footballers and from the clubs we support, which was a bit boring and predictable. So then we changed it to "non-football" and it was really quite interesting. So lets hear your non-football sporting heroes and the reason...

Random musings of a journeyman footballer

Saturday 12th May sees me play my last competitive football game. That will have been 42 years of league football since my old teacher at Westleigh Junior School entered us in the Southend Junior league back in 1976. Since then I make it I have played for 16 different clubs in 15 different...

    100 ball cricket

I assume most cricket fans on here have seen these latest proposals from the ECB. Thoughts? https://www.ecb.co.uk/news/668162/ecb-presents-100-ball-domestic-game-for-men-and-women I'm all for thinking of new ways to get people in to cricket, but can't see that shaving 20 balls off an innings...

My friendly invasion - Its was all big Bill Garners fault!

My friendly invasion Many years ago, in fact it was 23rd July 1985 I was lounging in the sunshine in Southchurch Park in Southend it was a Sunday. The reason for me being prostrate on this beautiful Sunday was I was watching a one day match between Essex and it could have been Warwickshire or...
  5. Chris Powell London marathon

Heard Chris Powell on BBC Essex this morning speaking passionately about prostate cancer and his London marathon effort. Seems he's only 30% of the way to his fundraising target so I thought I'd post the link here, hope the mods don't mind. https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/chris-powell2018

  7. Hi everyone

New member here. Moved to Essex for a spell from 1989 through 1998-ish and started following Southend United as my "local team" shortly thereafter. Went pretty regularly through the promotion seasons, driving to away games in a C-Reg Rover 216 with Jamie from Grays and Stuart "the postman"...
  8. Thatchers Children

To save hi-jacking the Brexit thread I thought people might like to explain who they first voted for and why. Lets keep it to your personal reasons so no need to repeat to many grand and well covered anti Thatcher rants etc. I had left school in 1981 so my first vote was for Labour in 1983. If...

    A new famous(ish) fan?

Absolute Radio DJ Andy Bush has recently moved to south Essex and, despite being an Everton fan, decided to watch us on Saturday. On his show this morning, he talked about the game and talked about maybe sponsoring a player. Good to see the club getting noticed in the wider media for once and...
  11. Can I listen to matches on DAB

    Essex power list.

I normally wouldn't lower myself to this level but how the hell can the owner of Billericay be 19 places higher than Ron Martin? Essex Power List
  15. A Bit of Fun Paul Clark's Radio Skills

Does anyone know why Paul Clark is no longer broadcasting on BBC Essex coverage of Southend Games?

    Question ifollow data usage

I just use the app (on my android phone) to listen to the live match as I cannot get Essex Radio. However, I seem to be getting through my data allowance much quicker than when I was using the old Blues Player app. Has anyone else noticed this, or am I mistaken.
  17. Essex Senior Cup

ESC 3rd Round away to Billericay. Match to be played by 11th November.
  18. Essex CCC 2017 (Part 3)

Temporary thread hopefully... Anyway happy with the result, and the declaration was the right call, to keep those pigeon racing, flat cap wearing northerners at bay for the time being. Looking at both our "run in's" I think We will will beat Warwickshire, and the Lancs will beat Somerset...

Breaking News Group 4 Security Van spotted outside Southend Utd main reception

I think the war chest has arrived and Ron has been seen sporting his sheepskin coat and flat cap in anticipation of smashing the club record with a marquee signing that is more of a "jaw drop" or a "OMG Jesus F*cking H Christ no?" than a "wow". Putting 2 and 2 together, I reckon Jonny Evans or...
