Echo News 'I'll watch Southend' - Harris reveals plans after leaving Millwall

Neil's being very diplomatic as to why he's stepped down. So we may never know. I will ask him when I see him, but he will probably just smile and keep schtum. There was a little spat with a very small minority of supporters after a defeat, which surprised him after all he's done for Millwall. He was also called in for talks with the Chairman. Just being called in can make someone like Neil make his mind up. Only Neil knows, and he's not saying at the moment. Saying the time was right is very diplomatic. Anyway, he did a terrific job there, and has left them in a position that they can push on if they spend in the transfer window. A big IF that, as that's not their style.
Rumoured that he doesn't see eye to eye with the DOF that came in over the summer.

Whatever else, if somebody is 'underachieving' playing one available sub while being on the fringes of the play-offs, then anyone less than Pep as next boss is a poor choice, lol!
KM's ideas brought us and continue to bring results.
Sure, there's room for improvement, frankly, a lot of improvement, but that has to be down to personnel.
Maher was forced to go shopping late, and didn't it show!
Bonne, Walker, Gubbins, KAF, Jeacock and Moncur are currently very average.
If they do OK one week, they rarely repeat the next.
Wind and Pepple may have something, and by that, consistently something, and perhaps the two new faces, Golding and Kendall might add a bit more?
However, I agree KM needs to shuffle the midfield a bit more.
If Maher was working wonders last year with what he had it begs the question as to why he has loaded up with very average players this year - I’d rather of only signed 2 or 3 players that are good at this level then 6 very average players

Buy average players , expect average performances and results …..You reap what you sow as they say

It might seem a superficially attractive idea that Harris becomes manager when the inevitable happens but the club needs to learn the lesson - never go back. It almost always ends badly whether ex player returning as manager, player coming back for second spell or manager getting second chance. We need someone who doesn't have a past connection and who has fresh ideas, motivational skills and a love of enterprising, entertaining football.
Just erase the tilson years from memory then? 😬

That’s what we did this summer.

We only signed two players over the summer: Gubbins and Walker, both from the EFL.

Everyone was then crying out for more quality so we signed Moncur and Bonne - both former Championship players, both on big wages.

Wrexham, Chesterfield, Notts County and Stockport all got out of this purgatory playing decent football.
Forgive me, but this is almost tautological.
I doubt you could kick the oppo to bits hoofing the ball down the middle expecting to win a league - even this one!
It might be added that the above had good budgets with a settled set-up having emerged from the doldrums of one sort or another.

Wind
Walker
KAF
Gubbins
Crowther
moncur
Bonne
jeacock
Waldron

Have all come in the past year and only Crowther is guaranteed a start and that’s due to Kensdale departing

Apart from the odd bit of magic from Moncur is his first few games I’d say these are average signings that are not pulling up any trees in the NL

Its been said so many times that we don't have kind of money that those clubs enjoyed. Context is so important when making comparisons.
How about Orient then. Turned a poor NL team into Champions in 1 single season. Didn't break the bank either to do it. Done by good management and shrewd signings.

I think a few of them are decent signings, my thoughts are that the trouble lies in the formation we are playing ,i really dont think crab football suits the like of Bonne, Walker , Waldron ,Kaf who likes to run at defenses but our tactics dont allow that and even Moncur, as for Wind hes young and very promising and Gubbins seems a bit like Cardwell when he first came here ( inury prone )Crowther also young and improving ,Jeacock just a young loanee bought in when we needed a stand by keeper. So there you have it .Walker to my mind should be played out on the left,

It's not the money you spend it's the way of playing. Crab ball is Maher's style and will never change which is why we are where we are.
