Transfer News, Gossip & Speculation Transfer Thread - Summer 2025 Edition.

Transfer news
Get your point however tell that to the likes of Oldham who had Yoganathan on loan etc. You do need to use the loan market we just need to try and not have recall clauses in the deals.
I might be wrong here so apologies if I am … didn’t Yoganathan join Oldham fairly late in the season ? If he did that would explain why he wasn’t pulled back and tested higher

Yep, very different case to Bim, who we loaned in the first half of the season.

When loaning EFL players in the first half of the season, it is fairly standard for there to be a January recall clause in favour of the parent club, because they almost always want to take any opportunity to loan the player higher.

Less issue with Yoganathan, who joined Oldham with less than 2 months of the EFL transfer window remaining, so much less likely to get recalled or to even have the clause in there.

Also - Kevin Maher's preference is to sign players permanently and try to develop them for SUFC, rather than develop other club's players. I can see the reasons for and against and there's no right answer there. Just a preference.

Kev hasn’t been totally averse to loans but as you say he’d rather build a close knit squad with loyalties to Southend. It’s a real shame we couldn’t hang on to Bim.
