Post-Match Thread and Ratings Forest Green 2-2 Southend United..We win on Penalites 4-2

Still ****ed, still buzzing.

Line-up was perfect, subs well utilised.

Comfortably the better team until we scored, then they shaded the remainder of the 90 (though we had momentum at the end).

Extra-time, they looked better. If you'd have told me there'd be another goal at 2-1, I'd have assumed 3-1 to FGR.

Bridge, sublime finish. Penno's, bar Walker's, superb.

I absolutely love this football club. I've been a supporter for 35 years and have never felt a stronger bond to the club, despite living outside Essex and not getting to as many games as I'd like.

See you under the arch

Why you going to McDonald's not Wembley?🤣

To be fair to Hayes he didn’t really have much to do . Both of FGR goals were down to the outfield players asleep. Both players could just pick their headers with no challenge.
A big if we do get promoted Sunday week. Neither Hayes or Colin will be good enough as first choice goalkeeper.
Just my opinion by the way.
COYB’s
PS There will be 4 of us coming up to Wembley from Devon/Cornwall to witness the mighty blues 💙

Another remarkable night. Goodliffe and Hopper the stand outs but all the outfield players did well. A terrific effort. Best referee this season.

First time to FGR and whilst a very pleasant town/village and their fans also seemed very pleasant but that's where it ends. An open terrace, not allowing us to sell it to capacity, not prepared for the numbers in the fanzone, not enough stewards (compare with Rochdale), no parking, no park and ride, no effort to smooth the way for away fans and advertising hoardings flashing messages so brightly that it made viewing like watching a football match in TOTS. There has been some fun in the NL with some interesting new destinations but please get us out of here now.

Did he? He spent all game saying how wonderful Cotterill was.
To be fair I was at Roots Hall and we didn't get any commentary before the game so have no idea what he said. All we heard was his in game commentary where it was all about Cotterill
He's always been supportive of Southend through our troubles, he is a particular fan of Kevin Maher. He seemed to be trying to be neutral last night.

Like many shrimpers due to FGR giving us a tiny allocation couldn't attend last night and made to do with the DAZN stream and it was an unbelievable result went to bed very very happy bunny but needed to watch the highlights on YouTube to make sure it wasnt a dream

Yes. No real chance with the 1st which was a free header, and Taylor (I think) impeded him for the 2nd.
Not forgetting the fact that the header for their second was straight out of the textbook. Is Hayes an outstanding GK? No, but he’s pretty damned good AND (Wiggy) he is a shot-stopper. We have had far worse keepers in my lifetime playing football 2 levels above the current one. I have no doubt he doesn’t expect to be here next season, win or lose on Jun1 but I’m not in the least bit worried about his place in the line up.

I’m mystified as to why, after an incredible last few games, some people are determined to find scapegoats. In the words of Maggie T. REJOICE!

Having watched the various videos umpteen times today and reflected again on last night’s performance KM has difficult choices again for the starting line up. Our defence is good but it is not solid. In addition had we been more clinical we could have been leading at half time and who knows how the second half would have panned out. Improvement in either of these two areas is essential. Our midfield has been sheer quality in the past month. That, I think/hope, is the area we will dominate at Wembley.

As I sit here, knackered from jet lag and then just 3 hours sleep last night, I can’t help laughing about the complaints of Maherball and lack of nous for substitutions. And still there are a couple that cite along the lines of IF we win on Jun 1 all is forgiven for Maher. Legend was written by the time he finished playing for us. Legend was underlined by what he (and the management team) did last season and at the start of this season. LEGEND can now be written in capitals and bold whatever happens tomorrow, Jun 1 and in the future. KM will know when he has taken us as far as he can.

Listened to your guys game much better listen than that Europa League dirge, so pleased for you guys after what happened at the start of the season, just one game to go and im sure you can beat the Biffos , i know all Rochdale fans will be behind you.
My next door neighbour is a Man U fan. Amazingly he is from Manchester. We were talking about Rochdale and then Oldham. Ah the Biffos he said. I asked the question. Bloody ignorant ****ers from Oldham.

First congratulations to all Southend fans. You have been suffering for too long in the NL and forced to punch beneath your weight. However, it’s a funny old game…. Having seen Maidenhead punch above their weight for 8 seasons we finally fell 1 point short this year BUT we took 3 points from Barnet, 4 points from Oldham and 6 points from Southend! If only we could have played you 3 times! Only joking - enjoy Wembley and hopefully next year back in the EFL. Don’t think we’ll see you back at York Road for a long time….
