Post-Match Thread and Ratings Forest Green 2-2 Southend United..We win on Penalites 4-2

50k people using the Bakerloo line on a Sunday service schedule is not good.
Wembley Central has a bit of queuing system but doesn't have the capacity. This is a serious safety issue.
Wembley Stadium to Marylebone won't be much better with a Sunday service.
This is also a valid point. As well as road congestion due to no tube. Metropolitan Police as well as TFL need to be lobbied

After leaping around the lounge with his old man last night, my eldest jumped on a late tube and headed back to his flat in Pimlico. As he emerged from the station two fellas approached him (oh-oh thought he).
"Is that a Tottenham shirt?"
"Nope" (pointing at his badge).
"ah, Southend, you lost 2-1 didn't you?"
"Nope, got it back to 2-2 and won on pens"
"You lucky b****ds! Good luck at Wembley mate!"

We went 1st

Walker - Low leftish, saved as it had no power.
Cardwell - Low right, sent keeper wrong way.
Bridge - High left, keeper went right way but no chance.
Knowles - Hit the bar, leathered it very hard.
Gubbins - Bottom corner right, keeper went right way but no chance. Brave lad & utter quality strike.
McCann - Hight left, Hayes got a touch but too much power.
Bonne - Lowish left, thundered it onto the inside of the post. The look on his face as he realised it had ricocheted across the goal but over the lne was classic. He was bricking it.
Sercombe - Tried to hit the top of the stand & did.
GSM - Low right, keeper went wrong way. Cool as anything.
Thanks for the detailed post.

Was Justin there tonight? If so, I hope they'll be someone to see him safely home following the celebration!
I was on the Shrimpers Trust coach where he was FaceTimed in Australia and we all sang to him Que Sera, Sera.
What an occasion was in the seats, totally detached from our fans in the stand, a big metal portakabin, sold out? about half the seats sold, mostly in the front row of 2 rows. Had to put up with the FGR songs all night, could not hear us until they were silenced by our goals.
To the game, we really tore st them first half but unlike Oldham v York did not take our chances. Felt KAF should have kept his shot down and under the bar and we had what looked like a couple of close headers. FGR then came on strong second half and when they took an early Extra Time lead through the possessed Osadebe we looked beaten. Ryan Innis, who was supposed to be injured was their talisman and again scored from a header. He really is a threat from set pieces and looks to have slimmed down and not be so cumbersome since his days with us. Step up our heroes, a beautifully worked goal on the break, clinically finished by Bridge on 116 minutes and all of a sudden we pushed for the winner and FGR looked out on their feet. As said at Rochdale did not fancy us for penalties and Walker showed why but I was wrong to doubt the rest. At least Walker’s was on target, next Bridge Mr Cool, Gubbins precise, Bonne hearts in mouth, GSM the rightful match winner.

Hayes 6
GSM 8
Taylor 7.5
Goodliffe 8.5
Ralph 9 MOTM
KAF 7
Coker 6.5
Husin 6.5
Parillon 7
Kendall 7
Hopper 8

Bonne 8
Bridge 8.5
Miley 8
Walker 6
Gubbins 7.5

Our unsung captain gets my MOTM, kept Garrick quiet until he was subbed off. Proving first game at FGR when Garrick ran riot in March that he came back too soon. Finished the game at LWB and just quietly goes about his business leading the team, and winning headers.
Take a bow Kev 4 of our penalty takers were subs, another masterclass in game management. Pariilon and Kendall who impressed at Rochdale got starts and Bridge who was ineffectual at Rochdale was a substitute hero last night. UTB

Just 6 months ago there were plenty of posts on here claiming COSU need to spend to get out of the NL......York and FGR were perfect examples of how spending rewards you......Money can buy you talent but it can't by your heart or your soul.

Everyone involved in SUFC deserves their day at Wembley. Nobody handed it to us. We have earned it with blood sweat and tears. What a great few weeks to tell the world your a proud Shrimper.
👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 post of the day!

A weirder exchange comes via Bruv ;

"slightly strange episode coming out of the ground last night. traffic was at walking pace and a bloke (clearly an FGR fan who've just lost a huge game on penalties) wound down his window alongside us. as i waited for a volley of abuse, he said 'so is it the longest pier in the UK, or the world?' 'the world, the longest pleasure pier' i go. 'oh pleasure pier, ok' he replies and drives off down the road 🤔🙂"

Those of us Baby Boomers who are still around - born in the mid-late forties, brought up in the fifties- will remember the great comics of the era. The Beano and Dandy, the Eagle, the Hotspur and Wizard and Tiger. Our heroes: Dan Dare, Thruster John and Gorgeous Gus (really) from the Wizard, and the greatest of them all, Roy of the Rovers from the Tiger. Roy scored 481 goals for Melchester Rovers and won three European cups. Around 2020 Roy was transferred back to his home town of Southend and changed his name to Jack Bridge.
The fantastic adventures from the fifties’ comics are matched by the difficult to believe performances from Southend United over the last week or so. Dead and buried in two successive games, 3-1 and 2-1 down, with little time left, away from home, the Blues climbed out of the coffin and dispatched the opposition.
I was at Rochdale, couldn’t get a ticket for the New Lawn even though it’s my nearest NL ground. I thought yesterday’s come back, watched on tele, was even more unlikely than at Spotland. FGR were a more effective team than Rochdale, had a solid defence and were on top throughout the second half. But an on loan centre back charged down the right wing, received the ball and then made a precision pass inside and Roy (Jack) swept home. I had a mouth full of tea at the time, and it all went down my shirt.
I won’t describe the game, others have done that, but there were signs of tiredness from several players in the second half , particularly in midfield. The substitutions were well timed and sensible but didn’t look enough to save us. FGR’s forwards from the bench were very dangerous.
The referee was excellent. The picture quality and camera work from DAZN were very good, the best I have seen from them. Aaron Maclean was bloody annoying.
The FGR manager and captain were both gracious in defeat. I posted after the league match that I didn’t think Rovers would go up but I had no idea that it would be Blues that stopped them.
On to North London. We simply have to win. Few of us relish another year in this awful league.
