Definitely not choppy waters so please don't get concerned status Norvegicus.
I understand the aim is to ensure the club lives within its means going forward and if there's a hiccup in that process it will need putting right.
Definitely no need for concern stability wise, just maybe the result will be a more reserved approach at the moment when considering whether to bring in players.
i think you're probably right about blocking. Reading all views is enlightening. Luckily I'm not the sort to be bothered, but willmay333s disrespectful confrontational way of sharing his\her views could easily cause offence. Fortunately, 99% on here are respectful posters which I find makes it easier for me to take all points of view on board .
When i read your first post regarding the Black Hole, I like others thought...oh no here we go again. Then, when reading this it wasn't so bad.
I do understand, that it doesn't take a lot for most of us to feel like crap when bad news is banded around about the Blues, God knows we have been through the ringer over the years, more than most.
So it doesn't worry me when someone loses it when given bad news.
Give the guy some slack, not everyone processes info in the same way...
I for one, always like to hear snippets and as someone said, what a dull place this would be without them.

Mind you, if info came out like this, the pressure to buy big, remove people from their jobs, etc would diminish... so I take it with a pinch of 🧂.
It's all politics in my opinion!

Ron Martin is the very reason why there needs to be an external body involved in who can and can't own a football club. The guy pretty much killed the club and even now he's gone he's still sticking his ratty teeth into the club.

Have Southend ever had a good owner ( COSU aside) in the last 50 years? Jobson doesn't sound like he was great, but albeit a saint compared to the rats

Reading between the lines here and I could be way off it sounds as though the eventual payment from Ron/Jack Martin we were due to receive when Fossetts makes a profit may now not be coming so COSU are looking to find a way around this. There does seem to be a similar amount (roughly) of how much Ron was charged (£7 million?) And the lower end payment we were going to receive in profits. Is it possible Jack is paying the debt so somehow the company will not be making any eventual profit and we lose out.

I’m probably way off to be fair, I’m making lots of assumptions!

I think you estimating that Ron and Jack Martin are not gonna pay for something isn’t even an assumption. There are judges out there that have been in court fewer times than Ron!

Interviews with Justin or other members of COSU in the past have always seemed to allude to the fact they would have a backup plan if this money didn’t materialise because with lifelong fans on the board, they knew what they were getting into.

That however doesn’t help when there are cash flow problems. It’s difficult to draw many conclusions without knowing where the gap in finance has come from IMO.

If we are indeed in a position where we can't afford to pay 2 bob for player playing for side way down the pyramid then that's bit of concern. Potential hidden gem who could be worth few quid in couple years time feels like punt worth taking. Can't COSU with it's army of 12 fund the deal itself. Not saying they should do that for every transfer but with this transfer due to it being low risk signing, surely it's punt worth taking.

Maybe it is one of the creditors being paid in instalments that now want the whole amount owed because of their own cash flow issues. Only a hunch.

Jack can’t afford to pay a parking fine, let alone pay off any level of debt. Just like his dad, he’s up to his neck in financial trouble.

I’m sure COSU have realised by now that they won’t be getting any financial help from the Martin’s for future RH developments

My point has been completely missed.

Ive already seen 3 different people mention how we could start the season in embargo, or worried that things are negative. Ever heard the saying "you dont tell the kids mum and dad are arguing" ?

It is so, SO unneeded to drop these subtle "cant sign anyone, ron/jack are why" and then REFUSING to provide any insight on how or why?

Couldnt care less if your info is valid or not, im not really fussed, just so pointless to post such baiting lines to an extremeley senstive situation?

Is that so hard to understand?
The cost of signing this guy and his wages would be so insignificant verses the wider sums involved in running the club/ fixing the legacy mess that I think two things are being linked when they needn’t be.

If we don’t want the guy great.
If we want him but can’t compete because of who else is after him understandable
But if we want him, and he’s the right player for us, but we aren’t going to pay a small fee and £12k in wages to the end of the season because Ron/Jack screwed us over again, just means we are letting them screw us over twice. Nose. Spite. Face.
So I wonder if it’s truly linked.

But I have no doubt what ITK says is right re Ron/Jack. He’s a reliable poster who has earned trust over a number of years.

My personal take on the Martins making any payments to COSU was never going to materialise.
I don’t believe COSU ever believed that any money would be forthcoming from the 🐀 family.
I’m not in the know, just my view.

You’d hope the council has some caveats in there ring-fencing these funds. But I agree, it’s always been highly unlikely any money would be forthcoming but you always have hope. We did get saved after all and plenty thought that wouldn’t happen.

Back onto topic ...........

The finding (mining?) of a few players lower the pyramid for development is one that I think we all welcome with the knowledge that only some will work out.

To balance that I still think there is space in the squad for some more experienced old heads. Moncur didn't work out but I don't think that should stop the club from going down that route again for a midfield leader. And possibly the same for a central defender.

Just my point of view ................

Good "shout" as the youf say ........ but I think I have worked out the situation.

This charge towards the play-offs could be the cause.

If we (the club) were to get into the play-offs that could mean promotion .......... and that bizarrely could be causing the management team a massive headache ............. as this could mean that the club would take a substantially different approach to player recruitment over the summer. Therefore a dual approach is currently required.

Consequently funds have been diverted from bringing in this player to fund ..........

............. a 2nd whiteboard!

Excellent! And not forgetting the cost of bringing in extra decent markers, board markers that is!

I think that is being a bit extravagant - the current markers will work on both boards.

What will be needed is some extra cloth to cover up the whiteboard so that people like @Lundon_shrimper and @in_the_snow can't see the names through the window ..........

Well as far as I understand the Council will be responsible for making sure the £12 million or so is paid. We were told this would be in 3 instalments linked to the Housing Development at Fossetts. Should there be delay in starting the building, then clearly the money into the Club will be delayed as well. Given that plans are yet to be submitted for Planning Approval, any payment is still some way off.

Which also means COSU are still further away from owning Roots Hall completely.
