Defenders as Strikers

After reading the GSM goal scoring thread and seeing some blasts from the past, it got me thinking who has gone from defender to striker and held their own/done a job for the team.

So, I remember the following:

Keith Dublin (God he was ****) playing upfront for a few games for us.

Rob Newman subbing himself on to play up front (although he was top scorer).

David Morley getting a few games up top.

Phil Whelan being chucked up front (possibly against Cardiff when Rhys Weston scored the 94th minute oggy?)

Pretty much all teams used to chuck a defender up front when up against it, it's not really something I seem to remember coming off for us regularly in recent year.

Anyone name any others?

I can remember Spinner being stuck up front a few times when we were chasing games in the Championship. Can’t say I ever remember it working which is unsurprising!

If I remember right , Shane Westley came on when . Martin Robinson went of injured against Ipswich at Portland Road in the old Milk Cup .

You do.
Bit of a Cup run that, had aleady beaten Brentford and Derby. Ipswich went out a couple of rounds later against eventual winners, Luton.

And he cemented his position in the side after that.

I must go and have a look for that street later on today...

Mohsni was a strange one.

He played CF a few times for us but I think he got his hatrick playing left wing didn't he? Don't think he was an out an out striker on that game.

Do remember when he was up top smashing it top corner against (i think) Northampton from 35 yards though. What a goal.
Vs Barnet I think
