Breaking News Barney off to Southamton

Much rather get this out of the way sooner rather than later... I'd prefer him to play for us at the weekend, mind, but the time to identify and sign a replacement rather than have this go through on deadline day is invaluable.

Hmmm after Rons paid the milkman and paper boy should leave Tilly with about £19.75 to buy a striker to bang in 25 goals..

Much as I had expected and feared. The fact that Barney was going in January has become more and more inevitable by the hour. What would annoy me is if we are left with Spencer and who else up front for Saturday's VITAL game against Wycombe. It is also interesting comparing likes, even if we do get someone else in for Saturday's game. Barney at Southampton, where they would have the luxury of puting him on the bench, compared with our new player, who would probably be thrown in at the deep end and be expected to perform straight away.

Spencer as a loan striker at weekend or paired up with Laurant, JFC/granty taking the right wing. Not what I want to see but I see it happening.

Exactly what I mean! What infuriates me more is that Ron and Tilly must have known for some time now that it was pretty certain Barney was going to leave in January. I really shouldn't get so worked up because perhaps it's all been sorted out and a new and suitable replacement wil make his debut on Saturday...............here's hoping!

End of the day, Thanks Lee, thanks for the goals this season but seriously, if you dont want to play for this club, i say "mind the door dont hit you on the way out".

Dont get m wrong, he has been terrific for us and the goals he scored will be hard to replace but i dont want people wearing the Southend United shirt if they dont want to wear it. Good luck to you and your future.

Time to move on....

I understand the lad wanting to better himself and wages being doubled but £200k is an utter p*ss take for a proven goal scorer, that will twice Pardew has mugged us off now. They paid 1m for Lambert

200k seems a snip for whoever buy's him but I guess the chance of probably trebling his wages is enough for him to want to go....

Now what did we pay for the likes of Richie Foran/Billy Paynter etc..:(

Sorry, not on the subject but has anyone else been able to listen to Tilly's preview for Wycombe. Thought it may be quite interesting to see his demeanour this afternoon in relation to the unfolding events. Sadly I can't seem able to sign in to Player at the moment, thus that little avenue of interest and pleasure is closed to me. Anyone else having a similar problem?

Doesn't really ring true though, does it?

In an ideal, Football Manager based world or a comic book one where a local boy grows up and his dream is to play for his club it's one thing, but Barney doesn't support us and did his training elsewhere. Likewise, we are cutting our wages of late to ease debts and a footballer's career is short; he's had injuries too, and if this is his chance to shine before they get the better of him and earn a few quid then fair play to him. I don't think he's ever engineered a move away like Bailey did, merely not sign a new deal - and who can blame him when we're in the national press for most of October with a winding up order hanging over our club?

He got a bit of stick last year and has been a total professional this year, playing out of his skin - even if it is likely that he was doing so to get noticed by a bigger fish. If we stay up then it'll be largely thanks to the goals he scored between August and January.

I'd love to see a Southend team of local lads playing for the love of the game or players 'bleeding Blue' but in real life it doesn't work like that; would I do my current job for very little thanks and accolades if I had no real connection to it, whilst knowing I could earn twice as much up the road and have more of a chance of a better future? Would I bollocks.

Now Rooney, there's somebody different as he was a local lad who said he only ever wanted to play for Everton - and then scarpered for some trophies. But as far as I'm concerned Barney has served us well and will be missed sorely.

"Lee Barnard, my lord..."

Ouch ... but still some time to get in a new striker, left back, centre half and creative midfielder, or pay the taxman instead ...

Seems Kevin Lisbie being heavily linked to the Saints now (and he has worked with Pardew in the past) - cannot see them wanting both...

This man knows.
