Liverpool's New Ground delayed due to funding

Now, I'm guessing this will get moved... but,

Liverpool have announced that there new ground will be delayed due to funding issues caused by the global credit markets.

Now, if a club the size of Liverpool can't manage to raise funding for a new ground, what chance have we got of raising ~£50m?

Personally, if I was Ron, with conditions as they are - and bearing in mind planning permission is valid for some time why not invest some money in some players and sit on the plans for the new ground for a year or so when conditions may be more favourable.

Just my opinion, what's everybody else's?

A lot of people feel the same, the only problem is we have to be out of RH by 2010 as part of the Sainsbury contract.

But Liverpool will be building a 60,000 seater stadium that will be sold out every game. We're building a 22,000 stadium that will have 7/8000 (?) most games.

Our current ground already holds 7/8000, a new ground will lead to an increase but I get your point though.

Liverpool and us are two different projects, Ron Martin did refer to the current finance climate recently and gave no indication of any problems so all we can do is keep the faith...

But under the conditions of our clause to lease to Roots Hall, the council can't kick us out until we have a new stadium/a stadium to play in

I'm not sure of the point you're making but Martin Dawn has a contract as I understand it with Sainsbury's to be out of RH by 2010 so they can have the site and build their supermarket (amongst other buildings). This is nothing to do with the council.

You cant say that on here. People will say you are unambitious.

Id say they were unrealistic!

Our average attendance has been over 8,000 for 3 years in our exisiting stadium, it will increase when we move from hype alone...

Yes they may have a contract with Martin Dawn, doesn't mean the council will give them permission to build it, all this means is that Sainsbury will own the land. We own the land that the new stadium will be built on, but we still had to get planning permission

Yes absolutely correct.

Apparently they want to increase it to 73,000 -

"Our commitment to building a new world class LFC stadium is undiminished. Like many other major development projects in the UK and overseas we are affected by global market conditions and as such work on the project will be delayed in the short term. We will use this period productively and progress the proposals for the stadium to increase its capacity to 73,000 seats."
